1. GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The responsibility of management is to ensure that the construction works are executed in
accordance with the contract requirements. There are construction work methodology forms
that help the execution of tasks to be as desired. In addition, the standard technical specification
is used as references on the preparation of this form.
This project will be carried out by staff and sub-contractors to MEGG contractors, all members of
staff are experienced; sub-contractors are carefully selected for competence, experience,
trustworthiness and quality of work. The contractor has an on-going program of training for
staff. A site manager will be appointed to each contract that will be responsible for quality and
safety. Apprentices and young workers will be supervised and are not allowed to carry out tasks
or operate machinery for which they have not been trained.
All materials required for site will be unloaded to a designated unloading and storage area,
which will be away from the work area as far as, is practicable. This area will be kept tidy to
minimize trip hazards. Materials as and when required will be collected from the storage area to
the work area. All staff will take care when handling materials.
All site workers will wear Safety boots, Hi Visibility Vests, Dust mask, Hard Hats and protective
clothing at all times, other items of PPE (Personal protective equipment) such as eye protection,
and gloves are available to be worn as and when necessary.

Adequate access and egress should be provided to the site. Access will be through designated
entrance and exit pathways only.
1.6 LOGISTICS
The Purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all plumbing and sanitary works are executed in
accordance with the contract requirements, hazards are analyzed, and safety procedures
implemented all quality assurance/control activities are conducted in a systematic manner.
All workers involved will be trained in all necessary hazard recognition and control
measures especially in safe manual handling techniques and the need to keep all access
always clear to work area.
Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be worn at all times.
Secure barricades within the area whenever necessary.
Washing facilities should be provided.
Provision of scaffolding when working at heights and only qualified persons will erect and
dismantle the scaffolds.
Working area where objects and debris are falling will be declared as restricted zone and
will be barricaded.
Scaffolds will only be used for its intended purpose and capacity. Never used scaffold as
blocks storage.
Wearing safety harness when working on heights shall be strictly implemented to not less
than 1.8 meter.
Only qualified and trained personnel will do the task.
Keep the work place clean and tidy at all times.

It must be ensured that the surfaces to receive the sanitary work are clean and free from
sharp objects.
After finishing the plastering block work in each floor, we will start marking the location
of all the water supply lines as per the approved shop drawings.
We will start to cut the marked locations by using the grinder,
We will fix in position, PPR water lines as per the approved shop drawings.
Apply Nito-bond bonding agent (Already submitted and approved by the Engineer) on the
grinder cut areas, then re-plaster all pipe lines. Make sure that the new plaster ends flush
with the pre-plastered surface.
Piping through plasterboard walls and ceilings is performed by fixing the pipes with
plasterboard frames using approved Pipe tie up to the sanitary fixture point.
Any connection and branching from a riser pipe will be conducted inside ceiling (There
will be inspection frame just on pipe branching points) in order to protect the
plasterboard walls from leak risks.
Clamp pipe assemblies on to the brackets. Ensure the pipes area unit in ‘line’ (horizontal
runs) or in ‘plumb’ (vertical stacks).
PPR pipes joined by welding. The procedure adopted will be illustrated below.
1. Place the right-sized sockets onto the fusion tool. Most PPR fusion tools come
with pairs of male and female sockets of various sizes, which correspond to
common PPR pipe diameters.
Handheld fusion tools can usually handle PPR pipes ranging from 16 to 110
millimeters by providing dices of different diameters.

Pull the pieces off as soon as the alarm sounds or they’ve reached their
heating time. Otherwise, the ends will deform and melt.
9. Hold the fused pipe pieces in place for 30 seconds.
PPR pipe heats very quickly and cools very quickly. Within 30 seconds, the
pieces will have cooled enough to fuse into one piece of PPR pipe.
Use K-flex tube thermal insulation material on hot PPR pipes. Split the tube and
treat with adhesive tape after warping on the pipe. (Please refer to the material
data sheet attached below)
Use rubber clamp to support PPR Pipes, the spacing between clamps shall not
exceed 80cm for 25mm diameter pipes. For pipes of diameter 32 and above the
spacing can be extended up to 1.2m based on the support detail stated on
manfacturer detail.
Provide branches on the pipe assembly for connections to internal pipe work.
Provide uninflected valves on water system pipes at locations shown on operating
drawings; at simply approachable heights.
Perform pressure test on PPR pipes at a specified pressure, for the specified
duration, tests must be witnessed and approved by consultant representative.
Pipes shall be as per approved colour code and provide identification labels where
called for.
Ensure that base waterproofing of toilet floors is completed.
Assemble pipe headers and connect them to branches left in the shaft for this
purpose. Pre-fabricate wherever possible.
Flush the installed pipe work for water supply pipes to remove debris or
blockages, if any.
Check Chrome plated (CP) fittings for leaks and firmness and refit them if
necessary.
Ensure that proper tools are used, and they must not make scratches or any other

The slope adopted for UPVC pipe layout will be as per the shop drawing.
Use rubber clamp to support UPVC Pipes, the spacing between clamps shall
not exceed 1.2m based on the support detail stated on the
drawing/spesification.
Use Fonosphera XB pipe insulation material on vertical and horizontal waste
Upvc pipes, having overlap length not less than 5cm. Tie the insulation sheet
with cable tie at appropriate spacing.
Application of pipe insulation is not required on rainwater drainage pipes,
Vent pipes and Pipes located at basement floors.
Ensure that base waterproofing of toilet floors is completed.
Ensure that pipes area unit in correct slope and area unit supported

Mark layout of the pipeline and obtain approval from the Client’s representative.
Barricade sides of trenches to be excavated.
Start excavation works (Using manual labour or an excavator machine). Ensure that the
width does not exceed the maximum specified.
Use a leveling instrument to make depth markings all along the length of the excavation.
In certain situations, it may not be practical to use a leveling instrument in a plumbing or
sewerage installation. In such cases, a tube level could be used.
Allow for deeper excavations to accommodate the PCC base of inspection chambers and
at collars/joints of pipes.
Additional care should be exercised for excavations deeper than 1.5m, especially in loose
soils. Arrangements should be made for shoring the sides of trenches.
Care should be taken that excess excavations are always avoided. If in doubt, excavate
less and take out the extra depth in the next stage. Filled in soil invariably settles taking
the pipe with it, disturbing alignments.
Ensure that excavated earth is always stored away from the edge of the trench.

Lay the pipes on the prepared base and support them at adequate intervals.
Test the pipes for leaks under pressure in the presence of client’s representative and
maintain a ‘test certificate’ duly signed by the representatives of the client and
contractor.
Coat the pipes with the specified anti-corrosive treatment (if metal pipes are used).
Sanitary work will be submitted for inspection area by area in the required format and
comments if any will be attended.
3.6 PROTECTION
The water distribution system should be thoroughly disinfected before being use. The following
simple procedures will make sure the satisfactory results:
Flush and clean water tank and distribution pipe work with potable water to remove dirt
and any foreign matter.
Fill the tank with water mixed with chlorine solution. Retain chlorinated water in the
