1. Scope
This manual covers operation of desalters mud flushing portable package which
provides cleaning of desalters accumulated sediments.

2. Abbreviation

4. Introduction
Considering long time operation of the desalters, sediments will be accumulated
at the bottom of the vessels which cannot be removed in normal process of the
produced water treatment system so an external Mud Flushing package is
required as On-Stream mud flushing facility which is operated at periodic
01
intervals without interrupting the continuous desalting operation.

5. Description
According to vendor instruction mud flushing shall be done with a flow rate of
57.6 m3/hr at pressure 5 bar higher than operating pressure of desalters for a
half an hour.
Existing Mud washing skid consists of 2 sets of 3-stage centrifugal pumps (1
operating and 1 stand-by), producing maximum 80 m3/hr water flowrate at 16.9
barg. Water will be supplied by portable facility.

5.1 Preparation
1. Connect the package to desalter sand jetting connection (“D1” connection
marked in attached P&ID as sample for all Desalters)
2. Make sure all the connections are properly tightened and fully integrated.
3. Connect the pump system to the water source, check for suction pressure
for positive values.
4. Line up the pumps suction and discharge valves, vent the pumping
system from top point to pump priming.
5. Adjust the desalter interface level to 30%. Keep close contact to CCR
related operator for commands.
6. Evacuate the related closed drain drum from Hydro Carbon completely.
CCR to drain the drum via closed drain system.
7. Prepare one basin next to closed drain system with 2 standby vacuum
trucks.
8. Connect the closed drain pumps discharge valves to local basin
9. Connect one vacuum truck to closed drain related points.
10. Put the de-salter pressure switch on OOS mode for 1 hour.
5.2 Start Up and Operation
1. Close the skid discharge valve, Start the mud washing skid pump with
min. flow valve partially opened, check for any leakage.
2. Open Sand jetting connection valves to fully open position.
3. Open skid discharge valve gradually to reach max 49 m3/hr. of water
flowrate, check for any leakage.
4. CCR to monitor and control interface level by commanding site operator
on drain valves opening (D2 A/B).
5. CCR to continuously monitor the de-salter pressure and interface level.
6. Keep interface level and pressure constant during operation, interface
level shall not exceed 40 %.
7. Use vacuum trucks to evacuate closed drain vessel simultaneously and
send the effluents to safe area.
8. Keep the stabilized condition for 15 min. total time not to exceed 20 min.
5.3 Restoring the system to normal condition
1. After washing is over, close the vessel drain points, simultaneously close
the skid discharge valve to make no pressure differential shock to the
desalter

2. Shut down the mud flushing pumps.

3. Close the de-salter vessel sand flushing valves
4. Disconnect the mud flushing skid from the de-salter vessel
5. Reinstate all the piping systems to normal condition as per P&IDs
(including closed drain system).
