Geography: How Does GCSE Geography OCR B Support Fieldwork?

The GCSE Geography OCR B specification requires students to complete fieldwork on at least two occasions in both physical and human geographical contexts outside the classroom. Students will be assessed on their fieldwork experiences and examples of unfamiliar fieldwork contexts in the GCSE exam. Fieldwork is linked to five topics in the specification and examples are provided in the student book to both prepare students to conduct their own fieldwork and provide worked fieldwork examples reflecting the range of enquiries students may face. The fieldwork spreads serve to guide students through the fieldwork process and make them more prepared to undertake fieldwork in unfamiliar contexts assessed in the GCSE.

How does GCSE Geography OCR B support fieldwork?


The GCSE Geography OCR B specification states fieldwork must be undertaken:
l outside the classroom and beyond the school grounds
l on at least two occasions
l in contrasting locations
l including both physical and human geographical contexts

Students will be assessed on fieldwork by questions in the context of both Paper 1 Our Natural World
and Paper 2 People and Society components in the final exam. There will be questions both in relation to
students’ own experiences of fieldwork and on fieldwork examples in unfamiliar contexts.

Fieldwork is linked to five of the eight topics in the OCR B specification. Each of these links is covered by
fieldwork spreads in the Student Book, as follows:

Fieldwork spreads in the Student Book serve two important purposes:
