W1.1
Workshop 1: Horn Antenna (a) and Reflector Antenna (b) Simulation
a. Horn Antenna
The aim of this exercise is to construct a horn
antenna and study how the gain performance
varies depending on the horn aperture radius.
www.3ds.com | © Dassault Systèmes
b. Reflector Antenna
The aim of this exercise is to construct a
reflector antenna and calculate the farfield of
the full system (horn + reflector) using the
Hybrid Solver Task.
90 minutes
W2.1
Workshop 2: Dual Patch Antenna and Feeding Network
Task Construct a dual patch antenna and a corresponding matching network.
Keywords Patch, Farfield, Schematic, Connector.
A dual patch array is an array of two microstrip patches,

delivering increased directivity and aperture size compared
to a single patch antenna.
The aim of this exercise is to complete three main steps:
1. Dual Patch Antenna construction and simulation.
2. Feeding Network design and simulation.
3. Antenna + Feeding Network + Connector simulation.
90 min
W3.1
Workshop 3: Patch Antenna Array Design
Task Use Antenna Magus to synthesize a patch antenna for S-Band frequencies
Use the CST Array Task to construct and analyze an array using this element
Keywords Antenna Magus, Antenna Array, Phased Array, Unit cell, Farfield

A patch antenna is a low profile antenna, mountable on a flat
surface. It consists of a flat rectangular sheet or “patch” of
metal, mounted over a larger sheet of metal which acts as a
ground plane.
A phased array is a scannable array where the beam of radio
waves can be steered electrically, without physically rotating
the antennas. The array combines many small antennas to
achieve an effective high gain.
Applications include broadcasting, radar, space
communication, etc.

Workshop 4: Mobile Phone Antenna Design and Integration
Task Mobile Phone MIMO Antenna Simulation
Keywords CAD Import, Parameter Sweep, MIMO, Matching Circuit, Template Based
Postprocessing, Characteristic Modes
One of the challenges in mobile frontend design is to place

a multiband antenna into a compact device which results in
using electrically small radiators. These are inherently
narrowband and often need a carefully designed matching
circuit. Moreover the environment (PCB, housing, etc.)
plays important role in the antenna performance.
Mobile communications rely on MIMO technology which
requires multiple antennas having de-correlated radiation
patterns.
The aim of this workshop is to analyze MIMO performance
of 2 antennas integrated into a mobile phone housing
considering a suitable matching circuit.
60 minutes
W5.1
Workshop 5: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tag
Task Design a meander UHF RFID Tag
Keywords SAM, PCB Bending, Hand Phantom and SAR
The aim of this workshop is to construct a microstrip RFID

tag, bend it on a curved surface and finally place it on a
hand phantom to calculate, among the other results, the
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).
Part 1: Construction of Circuit model of RFID
Part 2: 3D modeling and simulation using SAM
Part 3: Conformal RFID setup using Bend operation
Part 4: Simulation on hand phantom and SAR analysis
