The Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 created authorities like works committees and labour courts to prevent and settle industrial disputes through mediation and adjudication. Lok Adalats were also established as alternative dispute resolution bodies under the Act to help settle industrial disputes through mediation outside of the normal court system.
