Professional Development Plan Form 1

Chandler Briggs has created a professional development plan to help determine their career goals and areas for growth. They are currently unsure of their career path but are considering teaching, counseling, social work, and non-profit work. Their plan identifies communication, social justice knowledge, and reception to feedback as areas to focus on. Specific tasks include practicing communication skills, attending racial equity workshops, reviewing past feedback, and using reflective journaling. The goals are to present ideas eloquently, feel confident advocating for social justice issues, and adapting when receiving feedback.

1. August 27, X This panel was really amazing

Raising Coconspirators: Talking about Racism with White Kids 2020 and full of great insights. One
thing I learned was that all
babies prefer faces of their own
race when they are a few
months old, but by 5 years old
all babies prefer white faces.
This is evidence of how black
children internalize racism and
white supremacy.

2. August 16, X This workshop explained

Adverse Childhood Experiences Workshop 2020 resilience in terms of Adverse
Childhood Experiences.
Children with more ACEs are at
much higher risk for negative
outcomes later in life.

3. September X My main takeaway from this

Diversity & Inclusion Skills for Aspiring Student Leaders Week: 3, 2020 panel was that workplaces
Social Justice and Civic Engagement in the Workplace need to move away from
silencing discussions of race,
religion, and politics. Rather,
they need to provide a safe
space to have these
discussions in order to allow
employees to bring their full
selves to the workplace and
continue to grow.

9. September X In this webinar, several HDFS

HDFS Career Connection Series: Alumni Panel 28, 2020 alumni shared their stories
about their HDFS experiences
and their achievements since
graduating. It was interesting to
hear how the program has
changed since the program first
began, such as resources for
pursuing Child-Life being
added to the program

10. October 2, X In this mentoring circle, Dr.

HDFS ‘Faculty Mentoring Circle’ with Dr Leech 2020 Leech talked about her
experience with research and
graduate school. One thing that

that many graduate programs
have opportunities for funding.

11. October 29, X In this info session, I listened to

Master of Arts in Teaching Info Session 2020 a panel of teachers discuss
their MAT and teaching

experiences. After hearing
them talk about student-
teaching experiences during
COVID, I decided that I would
wait to pursue an MAT program
if I decide that I want to teach.

12. October 26, X In this webinar, Sydney Howell

HDFS Career Connection Series 2020 and Kendall Bradley shared
ways in which they leveraged
their HDFS degree as post-
graduate students. One thing
that stood out to me was that
Sydney works for a global non-
profit that does economic
development. I am interested in
non-profit work after
graduation, so it was interesting
to hear how her HDFS degree
helped her obtain this job.
