Conductor

Conductor Dominic Lam is currently an active choral conductor in Hong Kong, working closely
with choirs of various musical backgrounds and interests. Lam is currently a part-time
lecturer in the Department of Music of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and the

Chan Hing-Yan is currently James Chen and Yuen-Han

Lauded for their subtle mediation between Chinese
elements and Western idioms, Chan’s compositions have
been heard around the world at prestigious festivals.
Recent works include three chamber operas (2018,
2015, 2013). The first two were commissioned by the
Hong Kong Arts Festival, who also entrusted Chan as the
composer and Music Director of an extravaganza staged
cantata to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hong
Kong’s handover in 2017. Chan served as Artist Associate Steve HO

The Hong Kong Baptist University Choir (BUC) was founded in 1973 to develop skills in large- YEUNG Wing Sze YIP Hiu Yi WONG Sau Chi

literature. The choir currently numbers over 100 students, staff, and alumni of the university.
The BU Choir has frequently collaborated with Hong Kong-based orchestras, including the Hong
Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, and Hong Kong Baptist University
orchestras in performances of major choral-orchestral works. It presented the Mozart Requiem, Bass
the Beethoven Mass in C, Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, John Rutter’s Gloria, Daniel
Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata, and Antonio Vivaldi’s Magnificat. The choir performed Beethoven’s CHAN Wai Man LEUNG Tik Man

Cantoría Hong Kong


The Cantoría Hong Kong is a mixed chamber choir of select students from the HKBU Department Tenor-Bass
of Music. “Cantoría” is an old Spanish word meaning “choir,” but it is especially appropriate
for the Baptist University setting, since it highlights the multiple languages and cultures CHENG Tin Heng Omarr
experienced in the Hong Kong landscape. The group was established in September 2009 and CHEUNG Pak Sang
traveled to the Czech Republic in June of the following year to participate in the 2010 Festival CHOI Dickson
of Songs Olomouc, where it was awarded a Gold Medal in the category for chamber choirs. It KAM Ka Yiu
has performed concerts in Tianjin, Beijing, Shenzhen, Taipei, and Kaohsiung, including a feature LAM Lok
concert at the main Concert Hall of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2012. LAM Yi Lok Daniel
It has hosted five Chamber Choir Showcase events with guest choirs and artists at Hong Kong LEE Ka Lun
City Hall Concert Hall since April 2011. It recently collaborated with the acclaimed Philippine LEE Pak Man
Madrigal Singers and The 24 from the University of York, as well renowned conductor Chen Yun SHUM Chun Hei
Hung, conductor/composers Ko Matsushita and Ben Parry, and countertenor Robin Tyson (King’s TAM Brian

The ensemble was featured on RTHK Radio 4 “University Voices” in 2013 and on RTHK TV Arts TSE Kai Tik Declan
On Air: World Youth & Children’s Choir Festival 2015. It was awarded the WYCCF-Jebsen Choral YAN Zijie
Arts Youth Scholarship in recognition of its contribution to Hong Kong choral music in 2015.
The Cantoría was also featured on the 2015 Edition Peters CD and website Half Moon Rising:
Choral Music from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. In June 2016, the choir
successfully completed its United Kingdom Tour, where it performed at King’s College Chapel of
Cambridge University, the Chapel of Royal Holloway University of London, the Gresham Centre,
and on the BBC Radio 3 programme In Tune. It then performed a joint concert with the National
Youth Choir of Great Britain during the NYCGB tour in Hong Kong in August 2016, which was
aired on RTHK Radio 4 in Fall 2016. In February 2017, the Cantoría performed as the featured
choir for the newly composed “Hong Kong Odyssey,” which was premiered at Hong Kong City
Hall Concert Hall as part of the 2017 Hong Kong Arts Festival. The group then performed a
leading role for the production of “The Suppliant Women” by Aeschylus in March 2018 at the
2018 Hong Kong Arts Festival in collaboration with the Actors Touring Company (UK) and the
Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh. The Cantoría collaborated with the national New Zealand
Secondary Students Choir and Wah Yan College Kowloon in a joint concert in July 2018, which
was later aired on RTHK Radio 4.

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) was founded in 1969 as the first children’s choir in Hong Kong. HKCC is CHUI Tsz Tou WAI Katarina Chiu Shuen

“Chorathon” to raise fund for children with hearing disabilities, 2001 “Bridges of Friendship, Bridges of Songs”
concert for the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf, 2003 “All for Love” fundraising concert for We Care Education
Fund established for children who lost their parents in SARS, 2006 fundraising concert for the Chinese University
of Hong Kong, 2008 fundraising music marathon for UNICEF to help children after the Sichuan earthquake,
2010 “Qinghai Earthquake Relief Fundraising Concert” for World Vision Hong Kong to help earthquake victims in
Qinghai, “Carol Singing Festival 2011 Sing for Our Next Generation Charity Concert” for the Child Development
Matching Fund, 2012 “Bridge of Love Fundraising Concert” for Suen Mei Speech & Hearing Centre which serves
children with hearing impairment, 2017 fundraising concert at Sydney City Recital Hall for the cancer support
service organization in Australia – CanRevive.

As the children’s choir that best represents Hong Kong, HKCC took part in many historical moments, including
the Hong Kong Handover Ceremony in 1997, the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Airport
in 1998, the Hong Kong Disneyland Grand Opening in 2005, various performances to commemorate the 10th
Anniversary of Hong Kong’s reunification with China in 2007, and series of performances celebrating the 2008
Beijing Olympic Games, celebrations for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of
China, the East Asian Games in 2009, and performances celebrating the 15th Anniversary as well as the 20th
Anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR in 2012 and 2017.
