Task B Design Alternatives Section of Report Goal

1. The document outlines one group member's design of a self-supported 3D printed chair for a class project. 2. The design includes a back, seat, strap, and nylon seat covers printed from PLA plastic and wrapped in nylon sheets. 3. The group member designed each component individually through steps like extruding dimensions and adding fillets before assembling the final chair design using the assembly feature in SolidWorks.

Task B

Design Alternatives section of report

Goal:
The aim of this section of report is to provide with a design alternative of self-
supported chair. Every group member is just required to provide with their
fabricated designs and then the final design will be selected by them to proceed for
fabrication of the model.
Requirements:
I kept in mind following specifications while designing the model:
1. The chair must be self-supported.
2. It should have a seat and back support.
3. Design must be made from the 3D printed PLA.
4. This material should be covered with thin sheets of nylon 66.
5. Dimensions should be kept as given in the task sheet.
Material Used:
I used the 3D printed PLA as the material of my self-supported chair and then the
thin sheets of nylon 66 are just wrapped over them for fulfilling the requirements
given in task assigned.
My Design Alternative of Self-supported Chair:
Every group member just
designed self-supported chair on
their own will while remaining in
the design constraints, here is my
design;
The way I carved out this very design can be seen from its solid works file attached
with this report for digging down deep on the details of this very project.
Actually, I designed this chair in the following four steps, after which I gave the
command of Assembly to join all the four parts listed below:
1. Back
2. Seat
3. Strap
4. Nylon Seat Covers
Design of back of the chair:
For this we took the dimensions of 60cm x 60cm and then boss extrude it to 12 cm.
After that applied fillets on all the four edges of sheet and then nylon 66 material is
added of PLA.

Design of Seat:
For the designing of seat, first of all dimensions of 77cm by 60cm are applied.
Then it is extruded to 17 cm and the result is as under:
Design of Strap:
A two dimensional strap is formed and then we boss extrude it to 0.25 cm.
Nylon seat covers
Again creating a sheet of the dimensions of seat but with thickness of a sheet is
formed and fillets are formed in it. Then material is added of Nylon 66 of PLA.

Then by applying the command of Assemble, all the four parts get joined to give
the required model of chair:
In this way, my design of self-supported chair is ready which is within the design
constraints given in the task assigned by the instructor.
Now after analyzing all the three designs by three group members of the group, the
final design is selected on the basis of the different parameters.
