COVID-19
In December 2019, the world was shocked and horrified by the presence of a deadly
virus. This virus came to be known as the corona virus. The virus was first discovered in the
city of Wuhan, China. This virus is known to first appear in the animal and seafood markets
in Wuhan City. It was reported later that many patients were suffering from this virus and
were apparently linked to the animal and seafood market. The first people to fall ill from this
virus are also known to be traders in the market. Quoted from the BBC, BBC health and
science correspondent Michelle Roberts and James Gallager said the animal and seafood
wholesale markets were selling wild animals such as snakes, bats and chickens. They suspect
that the new corona virus is almost certainly from a snake. It is also suspected that the virus
spread from animals to humans, and then from humans to humans.
One thing that is most alarming is that the virus continues to search for prey, while the
cure has not yet been found. The new type of corona virus began to become a concern of the
world community after on January 20, 2020, health authorities in Wuhan City, Hubei
Province, China, said three people died in Wuhan after suffering from pneumonia caused by
the virus.
Reporting from the Asian Nikkei Review, the news immediately troubled Chinese
citizens who would travel back home to celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 25,
2020. This virus felt even more frightening for residents because it was linked to the Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which killed nearly 650 people in China and Hong
Kong in 2002 and 2003.
The Central Java Health Office (DHO) states, the corona virus that is transmitted to
humans can cause inflammation of the respiratory tract. Head of the Central Java Health
Office, Yulianto Prabowo revealed, in the most critical condition a person affected by corona
virus can have a dramatic rise in body temperature of more than 38 degrees Celsius. In
general, a person infected with the corona virus has symptoms such as fever, respiratory
problems, cold cough, sore throat, and fatigue.
Reporting from A Handbook of 2019 nCoV Pneumonia Control and Prevention, there
are five ways of transmitting the corona virus from humans to other humans.
1. Transmission of fluids: water can carry viruses from patients to other people which
are within a distance of about one meter. The water in question is usually in the form
of bodily fluids that come out when talking, coughing, and sneezing.
2. Transmission from the air: the corona virus can spread over long distances through
the air. This method is the same as the way the flu virus, SARS, variola, and norovirus
is transmitted from one person to another.
3. Transmission of contact: viruses can be transmitted through direct contact with the
skin or mucous membranes (such as eyes, tongue, open sores, etc.). Transmission can
also take place through the blood that enters the body or affects the mucous
membranes.
4. Transmission from animals: people who process, sell, and distribute wild animals
carrying the corona virus can be transmitted through these contacts.
5. Close contact with patients: family, people who live in the same house, medical staff,
or even people who have been close to patients who are vulnerable to contracting.
According to the same source, the shortest corona incubation period lasts for two to 3
days, while the longest can reach 10 to 12 days. But looking at the behavior of the corona
virus in other diseases, experts say that the incubation period can reach 14 days. This is the
time span needed for the virus to infect and manifest the initial symptoms. During this time
the corona virus can still be transmitted to others so it is quite difficult to detect it.
Quoted from kemenkes.go.id, on January 21, 2020 there were 218 Chinese citizens
who contracted the corona virus and 4 people died. The number of victims continues to grow,
until on January 23, 2020, the Chinese Government decided to close Wuhan City, which is
the center of the emergence of the corona virus. This decision was taken after the death toll
reached 17 people and approximately 600 people were infected.
Some countries such as the United States, Japan, and South Korea began to withdraw
their citizens from Wuhan. The Indonesian government began to think the same thing. After
receiving the green light from the Chinese Government, the Government through the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs repatriated 243 Indonesians from Hubei Province.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said, the corona virus has spread to 18
countries. According to WHO the number of spreads has increased as of January 30, 2020,
previously only 15 countries increased by three countries who reported cases of this virus,
namely Finland, India and the Philippines.
After nearly two months of this virus outbreak, finally on January 30, 2020, the World
Health Organization, WHO, declared a global emergency against the corona virus. WHO
chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the emergency situation was not due to the spread
of the virus in China, but because it had spread widely to many countries.
In Indonesia this case was first discovered in two residents of Depok, West Java in
early March. Data until Saturday, March 28, 2020 the number of residents who tested
positive for corona virus reached 1,155 and 102 of them died. The rapid spread of this virus
in Indonesia according to the government's Spokesperson for handling COVID 19, Achmad
Yurianto because many residents did not follow the call to stay at home. this virus continues
to spread and develop in Indonesia.
The number of positive cases of Corona virus disease (COVID 19) in Indonesia
increased by 149 cases, the death rate increased by 21 people. The good news, there are 22
people recovering from COVID 19. This latest data was conveyed by a government
spokesperson for handling COVID 19, Achmad Yurianto, through a live broadcast of BNPB
Indonesia's YouTube account, Wednesday (1/4/2020) afternoon.
The total number of COVID 19 positive cases in Indonesia today is 1,677. The total
number of positive cases of COVID 19 that had recovered became 103 people. The total
number of positive COVID 19 cases that ended in death was 157 people. Therefore, the
COVID 19 positive case fatality rate (CFR) in Indonesia is 9.36 percent. The previous day,
Tuesday (3/31), the CFR was 8.9 percent
From foreign countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia reported 138
Indonesian citizens (WNI) positive COVID 19. They are spread in 20 countries.
