Preface
Thank you for purchasing the Canon JDF Parser (hereinafter referred to as JDF Parser).
JDF Parser is a MEAP application that is installed on a Canon printer, and which supports the JDF (Job
Definition Format) file format. This software module can interpret a job in JDF format and then print
the job on your Canon printer.
With JDF Parser, you can utilize JDF files, a widely-used data format in the industry, to maximize your
Canon printer’s capabilities.
Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the product to familiarize yourself with its
capabilities, and to make the most of its many functions. After reading this manual, store it in a safe
place for future reference.
NOTE

What is JDF Parser?
JDF Parser is software that is used with JDF compatible applications, and is installed as a MEAP
application on a Canon printer. JDF Parser parses work instructions (written in the JDF (Job Definition
Format) format) that are sent with print data when sending a print job, and then executes the print
job following those instructions.

NOTE
••A data unit transmitted to the JDF printer is called a “job.”
NOTE
••In general, you can use JDF compatible applications to configure or change the settings for
these features. For detail information on each individual application, see the appropriate
manual.
••Also, if you have any question about JDF compatible applications that support JDF Parser,
please contact the sales personnel or the retail store where you purchased this product.

JMF Function
The Job Messaging Format (JMF) is a communication (command/event) -related specification defined
in the JDF specifications. The JDF specifications mainly define the JDF schema as a job ticket, and also
define a communication-related specification called JMF, which is used to control devices connected
to workflows according to an integrated command structure. JMF provides functions that enable you
to submit jobs and retrieve various information from devices.
File Formats
The following table lists the file formats supported by JDF Parser.
IMPORTANT
••For information on options and formats necessary to use JDF Parser, refer to the application file
corresponding table.
JDF Version
JDF Parser supports the following JDF versions that were created according to the specifications
developed by CIP4.
NOTE
••CIP 4:
CIP4 is an organization established to achieve international standardization of integrated print
process management by developing and promoting JDF standards. For more information on
CIP 4 and its specifications, refer to the following URL:

Restrictions
There are some restrictions when working with JDF Parser.
3-2 Restrictions
Restrictions on using MEAP authentication services
••Whichever user submits a job, the job is always submitted based on the authentication
information that is set for JDF Parser. (Even users who are restricted regarding PDL printing can
execute JDF jobs.)
••The number of pages to be printed is all counted based on the department ID that is set for JDF
Parser.
••For JDF jobs, some settings in Department ID Management, such as [Allow Black Print Jobs with
Unknown IDs] and [Allow Black Printer Jobs], are disabled.
••When changing the authentication service settings in the printer, you must stop JDF Parser
temporarily. In that case, the authentication information of JDF Parser must be reconfigured in the
[MEAP Application Management] page of SMS according to the changes in the printer.
••When the Department ID Management feature is enabled and the authentication information
that is set for JDF Parser includes the settings on output limits on the number of sides, the
execution status of JDF jobs varies as follows according to restriction types.
Within limits Over limits Within limits Over limits Within limits Over limits
NOTE
••When the limits on the number of sides are reached during a job, the subsequent page output
is canceled.
