Assignment 4 PDF

This document provides information about planning and scheduling, including: 1) Four pairs of statements with options to identify whether both statements are true/false or if one is true and one is false. 2) A project with 12 activities, their predecessors, and durations. It asks the number of critical activities, minimum project duration, and total float of one activity. 3) A network with 3 activities, their time estimates, and asks expected project duration, probability of completing within 30 days, and project duration with 25% chance of completion.

ASSIGNMENT – 4

PLANNING AND SCHEDULING (Part-1)

Problem 4 [20 marks; TWO marks for a correct and - (-ve) ONE for every wrong response]

Read the pairs of statements and select option as A, B, C or D based on the following

A: If both the statements are true B: If both the statements are false

C If statement (1) is true and (2) is false D: If statement (1) is false and (2) is true

Statement-1: Critical path of a network should not consist of dummy activities

1 Statement-2: Activities that do not consume any time nor resources are called critical activities

Statement-1: Even if a non-critical activity in a network is delayed more than its float, (all other
factors remaining unchanged), the project completion date will not be extended.
2
Statement-2: The duration of the critical path in a network indicates the minimum feasible
time for completing the project

Statement-1: In PERT, activity durations are assumed to follow beta

distribution.
3
Statement-2: In PERT, the expected duration of the project (calculated by
adding the expected time of critical activities) follows beta distribution.

Statement-1: The earliest finish time (EFT) of an activity depends on the

earliest finish time of the project
4
Statement-2: The latest finish time of (LFT) an activity depends on the
earliest finish time of the project

Comprehensive information (Questions 5- 7)

A project has 12 activities - A, B, C, D…. L. The relationship among these

activities and their durations are given in Table-2.
Table 2: Activities, their respective predecessors and duration
Activity Predecessors Duration (days)
A --- 3
B --- 6
C --- 6
D A 4
E A 3
F C 4
G C 8
H B, E, F 6
I B, E, F 11
J B, E, F 3
K G, J 12
L D, H 10

estimates of their optimistic time, most likely time and pessimistic time (in days)
are shown in Table 3.
