Smart Targets Pouriya Shadman Haghighi
Introduction:
Here I will be looking at the targets I have set myself for the 5 year career plan and to
see if they are SMART.
Year one:
“My goal for this year is to first get distinction in all of the 9 remaining units so I will leave
college with D*D*D* and by achieving that I will get into high level and good courses at
university and also another goal that I have for this year is to find a job or a placement
so I can get more work experience and also it's required that we have 2 years of work
experience.”
For my first year my target is to achieve D*D*D* and it's Specific because I have stated
what I want to achieve in the first year, I have also mentioned that I need to achieve this
specific grade so I can go to high level courses at university.
This target is Measurable because each time I hand in an assignment I Achieve a grad
and I'm aiming for Distinction of each unit so the way I can measure my progress is
looking through the marks that Im getting or wait till the end of year when the points get
added up and I can measure if I have achieved my goal.
Its achivale because I personally think I'm more than capable of achieving distinctions
on all of my unites and achieve D*D*D* at the end of the course.
This target is realistic because I have achieved distinctions on most of my units in year 1
and I'm confident that I will be able to achieve distinctions in this year's units which
makes my target to be realistic because it's something that I can achieve by putting time
and hard work into my assignments.
I have plenty of time to achieve my target for this year because this target is one of the
targets for my 5 year plan so I have a year to achieve the D*D*D*.
Year two:
“By this year I will hopefully have left college with all D* and I'm at university studying
Marketing management and the goal is to be already at the accommodation and get all
the assignments that I have at university done at the highest standard and also another
goal that I have for this year is to find a part time job in a retail because I would like to
get better at customer service skills, I'm good at it but I think I can get better because if I
want to become a Marketing manager I should be able to communicate clearly and with
customer service it requires patience and good communication and being able to listen.”
For the second year my target is Specific because I have clearly specified that my target
is to be at university and study marketing management and to complete all the work I
have at high standards and also to have a part time job.
This target is measurable because I can see if I'm doing my work at university at High
standards by looking at the feedback I receive.
It's achievable because I will apply for university and when I have a place at the
university I have achieved my goal and also when I get a job.
It's realistic because I'm confident that I will have a place at university by next year and
I'm confident I can get a job.
The time period that I have to complete this target is 1 year which is the second year of
my 5 year career plan.
Year three:
“My goal for this year is to Keep on top of my assignments at university because I have
heard that from the second year it will get quite hard so I will need to work best as I can
to make sure I get high grades so I can move on to 3rd year of university.”
For the third year my target is specific because I have clearly said that I want to keep up
with the work I get from university and I want to do them as best as I can so I can move
on to the 3rd year of university with good grades.
It's measurable because I can measure if I'm doing good at my assignments by looking
at the feedback I receive on my work.
It's achievable because I'm confident in myself that I will do my work to the highest
standard with working hard and staying motivated.
It's a realistic target because it's easily achievable because I will be working hard and
studying to make sure I do all my work to the best of my ability.
Again here the time I have its 1 year for this target and I think Its in off and i will be able
to review to make sure i have achieved my target at the end of the year.
Year four:
“This is going to be my 3rd year of university and it could ether be my last year of the
year before my last but either way my goal is to perform as best as I can and get high
grades and also to work on learning new skills maybe like how to sign because it can be
a very good plus and not many people have that skill and I think it will look good on my
CV.”
For my four year of the 5 year plan my target its specific because I have clearly said
above that my target is to do good at university because it might be my last year of the
year before last year and I want to learn sign language because I think having that on
my CV will make e stand out to employers.
This target is measurable because if it's my final year at university I will graduate and
that shows I have done well and also I can measure that if I have learned sign language
by getting a qualification like a beginner level.
It's achivale because I think I'm a hardworking person which makes me feel confident
that I will graduate and learn sign language quite easily.
This target is realistic because they are many different organisations which provide
courses to learn how to sign and also there are online courses.
Again I have 1 year to achieve these targets which is quite easy because sign language
courses are like 1 year long.
Year five:
“This could be either my final year at university or my first year at Graduate training
scheme with a company, I haven't yet decided on which course I want to do at University
and there are both 3 year and 4 year courses so if I'm on the 4th year of university my
goal is to graduate and go on to a graduate turning scheme with a big company like
airway British, However If its was a 3 year course at the university my goal is to look for
a graduate training scheme because I want to carry on my studies and also work at the
same time so I can get experience on what I will be doing.”
This is my final target and it's specific because I have said that if I have finished
university I will be on a graduate training scheme with a big company or if it's my 4th
year at university I will be looking to secure a graduate training program for next year.
This target is measurable because I can measure if I have done well at university by
looking at my grades that I've graduated with and also if I have secured a graduate
training scheme.
It's achievable because there are plenty of companies looking for grades so I need to
have an impressive CV and a good degree to get in.
It's realistic because I think it's achievable and I will be able to get into a graduate
training scheme.
The time I have for this target is the last year of the 5 year career plan and this target
gets 1 year the same as other targets I have set.
