SMART TARGETS

What are smart targets?

Smart targets are specific targets that consist of four topics which are
specific, measurable, attainable and realistic. They help you evaluate your
targets and help you to think whether you will pass or not and because
they are an acronym they are a lot easier to remember

My SMART Targets

I made myself a career plan talking about what I want to be able to

achieve over the next 5 years. The SMART targets are there to help me
go into detail and think about each goal carefully thinking about how they
fit into the smart acronym

YEAR 1- I am now in my second year of college and I am studying a

Business course. I am currently working at a D*D*D and I am predicted a
D*DD which means I am above the prediction made by my course
coordinator which is an excellent start and a good way to progress. I am
then wanting to go onto University to study a business management
course or a business marketing course because these are what I have
interest in within the business sector. To get into university I need to
write a personal statement and gain experience in the business world to
help gain new skills and improve on the ones I have. My targets fit
perfectly under the SMART criteria. It is specific because I am talking
about exactly what I am studying and what grades I have as well as what
my next steps are. My goal is also measurable. I know this because I can
just check the tracker for what my grades are and what I am predicted.
Next is achievable. My goals are definitely achievable if my course
coordinators put it because they put predictions depending on the quality
of your work and your overall behaviour and last but not least realistic. I
think depending on my work I will be able to get the grade I need and it
is realistic enough because I have got distinctions quite frequently before
and think I will get them in the future.
YEAR 2- This will be the year I will be studying my business course at
University. By now I will be focusing on getting my assignment done as
well as looking at what I need to get the job I want as well as how I am
going to gain the experience. For this year's goals my target aan covers
the SMART criteria. It is specific because I am talking about what I want
to study at University as well as how many UCAS points I need and what I
would like to go into in the future. It will also be measurable because
each assignment is graded depending on how you did and this will help
me predict what I will get at the end of the year. It is scheible because If
I put the right amount of time into my work it will become more
achievable. It is definitely a realistic goal because If I am putting the right
amount of effort into my work I will get high grades at the end of the
year. My goal is also time bound because university only lasts for a
certain period of time and is going to finish so I need to make sure I don't
waste time and learn as much as I can.

YEAR 3- In this year I will be in my second year of university. This year

should be as difficult because by now I will have settled down and
understood the structure of learning within a university. This will help me
get achievable grades and carry onto the next year where I am hoping to
do a placement.

My goal is specific because I talk about what year I am in university as

well as what I need to do next to gain me more experience. It is
measurable because by looking at the grading scheme on my assignment
it will help give me an intel on what to do next. It is also achievable if I
put my mind to it and really try to get the best grades possible. However,
if I don't try it is not achievable. My goal is also realistic because it is
possible to do if I put my mind to it and build on my skills. It is also time
bound because the year after this I will be looking into placements.

YEAR 4- This is the year I will be looking for a placement or already be in

one. This placement will be to help me towards my experiences and to
help show off the skills I already have. My goal is specific because I am
telling what will be done that year and what it will help me do in the
future. It is measurable because the company I work for will be able to
keep a track of any new skills I have learnt. It is also achievable for me to
get a potential job with the placement if I do a good job and they like my
work and my behaviour towards the company. This is a realistic goal
because these kinds of companies give out placements or jobs to their
employees. It is time bound because placements don't usually last a long
time. They have a time period of around a year if you are also doing a
degree alongside like I will be doing.

YEAR 5- This is the going to be the year I will be graduating from my

business course and will be looking for a job. I will apply to some job
centres where they will help me look for some jobs. I could also fill out
some resumes for jobs that I find myself.

My target for this also fits under the SMART target. It is specific because I
am clearly stating what I need to do in order to succeed and what I will
do next. It is measurable because I will have a certificate to prove so.It
will also be achievable if i find a job that fits what I am looking for and
dont have the help of anyone else.It is a realistic goal because after
students usually graduate they get jobs in the sector they have studded
immediately. This is because they gain experience straight away. It is also
time bound because it will last only until I want it to, because I want to
get a higher position a few years after this, maybe at the same company.
