The Design
● The new building stands three stories tall
● Designed with a Sustainability factor in mind.
● Steel and concrete foundations
● School paint is blue and yellow: (blue because it is an intellectual colour and a
colour for trust, logic communication and efficiency) (yellow because it
represents creativity, friendliness, optimism, and confidence.
● A large green space for outside learning, school sports etc

Population
● Building capacity for 2000 students
● 55 classrooms in the main building, each with good seats and tables
● Two washrooms for boys and girls each on each floor
● Auditorium with capacity for 1000
● Two gymnasiums, with a two change rooms and a teacher’s office
● A weight room with different types of equipment
● Two computer Labs( one on the second floor and one on the third)
● One main office

Seismic Adaptations
● Concrete mat as base to resist significant uplift forces that can develop from an
earthquake
● Concrete foundation
● Steel bars as a frame which run up inside the walls through the floors of each
story
● 50 Isolator systems that move the building side to side as a whole unit during
an earthquake to prevent damages
● Seismic activity detectors. These act as a early warning system. Some warning
is better than none.
Resources
● Skylights to allow for natural light and heating.
● Geothermal heating and cooling to reduce the schools use on resources
● Copper piping. Copper is corrosion resistant and will last at least 50 years if
properly maintained
● Filtered water fountain for clean drinking water

Climate Sustainability
● Powered by solar panels placed along the roof.
● Sky lights to allow for natural lighting and some heating.
● Geothermal heating and cooling
● Recycling and composting programs
● Nature pollinators in the form of bee hives on the roof.
● Energy efficient LED lighting
● Highly insulated windows and doors to reduce energy consumptions for heating
● Energy efficient appliances
● School gardens placed around the building
