Module 5-AMBAS, DEVEE PDF

1) Air pollution comes from both natural and man-made sources, with human activity contributing most air pollutants. 2) Industries and vehicles burning fossil fuels release a variety of air pollutants. 3) Chlorofluorocarbons from appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators are depleting the ozone layer and disrupting the atmosphere.

BSEE-II Mr. Luis Joel T. Palamiano Jr.

Air Pollution

Breathing is one of the important things to do constantly to survive. Oxygen is the element
that our body needs, and it’s where the importance of breathing occurs. With every breath we take,
every move we make, we are inhaling ten-thousands of microorganisms. But how confident are
you that the air you breathe is safe. How clean is the air around you?
The air we breathe every day is important to our health. However, air pollution is often
not visible to our naked eye, and here is the danger lies. Because air pollution can make breathing
more difficult and even cause all sorts of health problems. But what is air pollution? And what
causes of it?
According to the module prepared by Sir Palamiano, air pollution is one of the most
widespread forms of pollution all over the world. Wind is the main agent of air pollution. It gathers
and moves pollutants from one area to another, sometimes reducing the concentration of pollutants
in one location, while increasing it in another. And those air pollutants are emitted from man-made
and natural processes.
Some air pollution comes from organic compounds from plants, sea salt, suspended soils
and dusts. Those are some of the natural sources of the pollution and we cannot prevent it. But
most is the result to the human activity, and we called it man-made pollution. Human interaction
and resource utilization are perhaps adding more pollutants to the atmosphere.
Industrialization causes not only water and soil but also air pollution. Industries big or
small steam to run. The steam is created by heating a boiler by burning fossil fuels such as coal,
coke, and furnace oil. And the boiler emits a variety of pollutant.
Automobiles such as vans, motorcycles and buses, when their fuels are burnt in the engine,
pollutants are given out from the exhaust of the vehicles.
Chlorofluorocarbons, according to the module prepared by Sir Palamiano. Scientists are
now alarmed regarding the increased concentration of chemical substances together called
chlorofluorocarbon in the atmosphere. These substances are responsible for creating holes in the
ozone layer causing unwanted imbalance in the heat budget. These are produced by modern
gadgets such as air conditioners, refrigerators, dyers, etc.
Therefore, we must take care our environment, especially the air, because the thing we
always do constantly to survive is by breathing. Without air there can be no life but breathing
polluted air condemns us to a life of disease and early death.
