Microprocessor Based Systems: by Nasir Mahmood Nasir - Mahmood@seecs - Edu.pk

This document outlines a course on microprocessor-based systems. It begins by stating that computers are complex but easier to understand when broken into hierarchical components. It then lists related courses and states the objective of this course is for students to understand different microprocessor architectures, programming in C and assembly language, interfacing, and applications of microprocessors. It provides examples of embedded systems and motivations for learning about microprocessors, which are their use in embedded designs, signal processing, mission critical systems, distributed control, and ubiquitous computing. It outlines the grading policy, textbooks, quiz policy, lab conduct, assignment expectations, and project requirements. It concludes with tips for getting good grades such as focusing on learning, asking questions, following a study

Quiz policy
The quizzes will be unannounced and normally
last for ten minutes. The question framed is to
test the concepts involved in last few lectures.
There will be minimum of six quizzes, any one
absent will get zero.
Conduct of Labs

The labs will be conducted for Three hours

every week. A lab handout will be given in
advance for study and analysis. However the
individuals will be evaluated by oral viva
during the lab.
Assignments
In order to give practice and comprehensive
understanding of subject, home assignments will be
given. The students are advised to do the assignment
themselves. Copying of assignment is highly
discouraged and taken as cheating case and will be
forwarded for disciplinary action. The questions in
assignment are more challenging to give students the
confidence and extensive knowledge about the
subject and enable them to prepare for the exams.
Projects
The projects are given by the instructor and are
conducted in groups. The projects must done
in phases so that students can follow the steps
sequentially to accomplish the task. The
project reports / presentation are evaluated.
The projects must finish before the end term
examination at least one week earlier.
Tips to Get good Grades
  Focus on learning rather than getting marks
  Clarify your queries in the class by asking maximum
questions
  Follow a study schedule to revise your lectures
  Make other people understand, try to teach to other
students
  Do your assignments and project yourself
  Read more on courses on web
  Practice coding on regular basis
Wish you good luck
