Historical Analysis and Interpretation Activity

DQQ (Difficult Question Quadrant). This simple organizer allows students to consider various
perspectives when faced with difficult historical questions. This means that simplistic, one-sided
arguments are out. The DQQ provides an opportunity for students to express their point of view
however this is separated from the top row in which students must find specific historical evidence to
explore the subject. This allows for an opportunity to discuss the work of historians and bias due to
personal beliefs.

Analysis and Decision- making Activity

This strategy is based on the Options Diamond presented by Harvard Project Zero to investigate the
pros and cons of various decisions made by historical figures. This activity aims to provide insight into the
difficulty of decisions. In groups students are to select one key judgment made and to list the pros and cons of
this decision and to investigate compromises and solutions.
