Transporting System Components

This document provides guidelines for transporting system components of a Brilliance CT scanner to prevent damage. It specifies acceptable temperature, humidity, and pressure conditions during transportation. The gantry weighs approximately 2.1 metric tons and requires a special transport device. Instructions are provided for moving the gantry through doors and narrow spaces using the transport device. Proper floor loading and clearance is also addressed.

Transporting System Components

To prevent damage to the system, transport the system only as described in this chapter.

CAUTION Transport the entire system in its original packaging.

CAUTION The truck used to transfer the system must have shock absorbers.

Transport Specifications

For All System Components Excluding WCS

During transportation, the environment must meet the following conditions:
• Temperature - Between −20°C and +50°C (14°F and 122°F) (see Figure 6 - 1)
• Temperature Gradient - 10°C/h (50°F/h)
• Relative Humidity - Between 10% and 90% relative humidity (see Figure 6 - 1)
• Barometric Pressure - Between 70 kPa and 105 kPa (700 mbar and 1050 mbar)
• Acceleration - According to DIN IEC 721, part 3, class 2M2

For WCS (Water-water and Water-air units)

During transportation and storage, the environment must meet the following conditions:
• Temperature: -20°C up to +50°C (14°F and 122°F)
• Relative Humidity: 10% up to 90% rel. h.
• Atmospheric Pressure: 50–106 kPa (500 mbar–1060 mbar)
• Comply with the mechanical environment conditions for transport 2M2 according to EN 60721-3-2

CAUTION The WCS Water-air Unit contains coolant material. It is essential to keep the unit
vertical at all times, (exactly like a refrigerator home appliance).

Transporting the Gantry

Floor load 6
Installation floors must be laid out to support a load of min. 400 kg/plate. During transport of the Gantry, higher loads
can occur at individual points (3-point load, e.g., if the floor is not level). Cover the transport path with sheet metal to
distribute the floor load.
A special transport device (shown in Figure 6 - 2) is required for the Gantry. Order it separately.
The Gantry weighs 2100 kg (4629.7 lb.) without the transport device. The transport device weighs 70 kg (154.3 lb.).
Table 6 - 1 shows the space required for transfer of the Gantry on the transport device.

Normal Transport
During normal transport, swivel the support arms
of the transport device outwards and raise the
transport device to allow a floor clearance of at
least 7 mm (0.28 ") (see Figure 6 - 3).

Transport Through Narrow Spaces
To transport the Gantry through narrow spaces, swivel the support arms of the transport device inwards, and lower
the transport device to the lowest possible position.

CAUTION When the support arms of the transport device are swiveled inwards, there is a danger
of the Gantry tipping.
Swivel the support arms inwards only in narrow spaces, where transport is not possible
with the arms swiveled outwards. Swivel the arms outwards again, as soon as space
permits.
See the next section for minimum and typical hall and door dimensions, and how to transport the Gantry through
doors and halls.

Transport through Doors and Halls

The figure below illustrates the relationship between the minimum door width, the resulting minimum width of the
hallway and transport of the Gantry around a corner.

CAUTION The maximum floor clearance for transport is 24 mm (1") in front and 15 mm
(approximately 0.6") behind. For this reason, the transport path should be relatively
smooth and level.

Transporting the Patient Table

The Patient Table has three separate Transport Rollers. Two are on the sides of the Table, near the Gantry end.
The third roller is in the center, at the end of the Patient Table farthest from the Gantry (see Figure 6 - 7).

Figure 6 - 7: Locations of Transport Rollers

NOTE The maximum clearance for transport is 24.5 mm. For this reason, the transport path should be
relatively smooth and level.

Transport the Patient Table as follows:

1 Raise the Patient Table to the maximum floor clearance by turning the two screws on each of the side rollers
clockwise. Turn the screws the same number of turns, using a 13 mm Hex socket (see Figure 6 - 8, on the left).

Screws Nuts

Figure 6 - 8: Roller Screws and Nuts

2 Raise the rear of the Patient Table by turning both nuts of the third roller the same number of turns, using a 10
mm Hex socket (see Figure 6 - 8 on the right).
3 Carefully move the Patient Table down the ramp, onto the floor and roll it to the required position.
NOTE Sudden movements may damage the base components of the table.

Transporting the PDC and the WCS

The power distribution cabinet (PDC) and the water cooling system (WCS) are delivered without transport wheels
attached to them.
Use a forklift to carry these components and set them down in their final positions.
