I. DESIGN METHODOLOGY:
Limit state method is used for the design of the structure. In this method, each
member of the structure is designed to satisfy Serviceability and collapse criteria.
Section 5 of I.S. 456-2000 has given clear guidelines for Limit state method of design.
The same design is adopted with the suggested Characteristic loads of I.S 875-1987.
At some places at the base column size is more as compare to top floor (for rigidity & to satisfy
the condition of percentage of steel). Sizes of column and beams, slabs are decided based on IS
456-2000 and IS13920-xxxx code.
Here the loads are considered to be transferred from slab to beam, beam to column and from
column to foundation. For external wall and the Internal wall has different dimensions, therefore,
the loads from the walls are varying.

1. STABILITY CHECKS –
1. Inter story drift ratio should be less than 0.004 X floor height=0.0116
For SPECX= 0.001025
For SPECY=0.001238
2. Maximum Deflection allowed against the wind is H/500.
6. In 3rd mode greater than 65% modal mass participation ratio shall be achieved.
Sum Ux = 0.88
Sum Uy = 0.87
It is ok.
7.No of modes given should be given in such a way that around 95% to 98% modal mass
participation ratio shall be achieved.
Sum Ux = 0.99
Sum Uy = 0.96
Sum RZ =0.96
It is ok.
8. Difference in time period of translation mode and rotation mode should be 10% of
translation mode time period.
Difference=0.758-0.67
=0.08 >0.0758
It is safe
10. Though the deflection due to long term creep is calculated with creep coefficient in check
number 4 i.e., 5.682mm which is less than 10.3mm. We did creep analysis along with auto
construction sequence to get accurate value of the long term creep deflection , The deflection
observed is
=(2.493-0.611)
= 1.883mm <10.31mm
It is safe
we modified the strenght parameters of the structural elements as per IS code recommendations
to check the accurate service performance of building
After apllication of S.M.F values, we checked different parameters to observe the servicibity of
building.
1. Inter story drift ratio should be less than 0.004 X floor height=0.0116
For SPECX= 0.001312
For SPECY=0.001182
Hence it is safe
3. Maximum Deflection allowed against earthquake is H/250
SPEC X= 13.43 mm < 14500/250 = 58mm
SPEC Y= 11.89 mm < 14500/250 = 58mm
. Maximum deflection against cantilever or any individual element allowed =
Span/350 or 20 mm whichever is less ( As per code)
=Deflection in slab – axial shortening
we modified the strenght parameters of the structural elements as per IS code recommendations
to check the accurate strenght performance of building
Torsional irregularity
Soft story
Vibration
Buckling
TORSIONAL IRREGULARITY :
We observed the torsional irregularity in y direction in the following floors i.e., greater than 1.2.
Torsional irregularity has been noted at certain floors in Y direction. Hence amplification factor
has been used as per UBC 97 Clause No: 1630.7
VIBRATION:
we also designed the slabs againt vibration to make feel better with 0.5% of gravity.
The demand to capacity ratio is less than 1. Hence the building designed against vibration.
Buckling:
There is no need to design the bulding against buckling because the height to least lateral
dimenssion of building is less than 4.
H/W=14.5/9.22
=1.57 <4
The building is safely designed for limit state of collapse as per IS code recomendations.
