I. DESIGN METHODOLOGY:
Limit state method is used for the design of the structure. In this method, each
member of the structure is designed to satisfy Serviceability and collapse criteria.
Section 5 of I.S. 456-2000 has given clear guidelines for Limit state method of design.
The same design is adopted with the suggested Characteristic loads of I.S 875-1987.

II. ARCHITECTURAL PLAN:

II. STRUCTURAL PLAN:

Taking Architectural plan as base, the column positions are decided to provide proper structural
frame without disturbing its positions. Column orientation is taken to provide maximum rigidity
along spans and also proper Resistance to lateral (wind& earthquake) loads.

At some places at the base column size is more as compare to top floor (for rigidity & to satisfy
the condition of percentage of steel). Sizes of column and beams, slabs are decided based on IS
456-2000 and IS13920-xxxx code.
Here the loads are considered to be transferred from slab to beam, beam to column and from
column to foundation. For external wall and the Internal wall has different dimensions, therefore,
the loads from the walls are varying.

Vertical Distribution of Base Shear to Different Floor Level

The design base shear (V) computed shall be distributed along the height of the building as per

the following expression:

∑W i hi2
Qi=Vb x n

∑ ∑ W i hi2
j=1

where,

Qi = Design lateral force at floor i

n.= Number of storey in the building is the number of levels at which the masses are located.

For Designing of structure considered Dynamic Analysis.

WIND LOAD CALCULATIONS

Wind loads will be calculated in accordance with IS 875: Part 3.

Design wind speed V Z = V b x k 1 x k 2 x k 3

V b= Basic wind velocity for Mumbai = 44 m/s

k 1= Risk coefficient for a design life of 50 years = 1.0

k 2=terrain, height & structure size factor =0.98 (table:2 of is 875: part3)
Here k 2 is calculated at different heights
Terrain category = 3
Structure class = B
k 3= Topography factor = 1.0

For upwind slope ˂ 3o

V Z = V b x k 1 x k 2 x k 3= 33X1.0X0.98X1.0 = 32.34 m/sec

Design wind pressure (Pz) = 0.6 x V z 2

= 0.6 x 32.34x32.34

= 627.52536 N/m 2

Wind co-efficient

h=14.5-2.9=11.6 m

L=19.41 m

w=9.22 m

h/w=11.6/9.22=1.258

L/w=19.41/9.22=2.105

5. Guideline for Fundamental time period = 0.1 x N

N – No. of stories of the structure
Time period = 0.75 sec > 0.1X5 = 5
Note: 0.3 secs time period difference is allowable

7.1st mode of vibration is performed to be true translation mode

=(2.493-0.611)

= 1.883mm <10.31mm

It is safe

Deflection of slab axial shortening of column

SERVICIBILITY CRITERIAL ANALYSIS :

It is important that the design building should perform through out its design life time without
cracking and collapse. We designed this particular bulding with utmost servicibilty.

we modified the strenght parameters of the structural elements as per IS code recommendations
to check the accurate service performance of building

S.NO STRUCTURAL CHANGE OF % EFFICENCY

2 BEAMS M2 , M3 0.5
3 COLUMNS M2 , M3 1
4 SHEAR WALLS -- --

After apllication of S.M.F values, we checked different parameters to observe the servicibity of
building.

1. Inter story drift ratio should be less than 0.004 X floor height=0.0116
For SPECX= 0.001312
For SPECY=0.001182

Hence it is safe
3. Maximum Deflection allowed against earthquake is H/250
SPEC X= 13.43 mm < 14500/250 = 58mm
SPEC Y= 11.89 mm < 14500/250 = 58mm
. Maximum deflection against cantilever or any individual element allowed =
Span/350 or 20 mm whichever is less ( As per code)
=Deflection in slab – axial shortening

=>(4.149-0.638)= 3.551mm < (3610/350)= 10.31mm

Hence its safe

Slab deflection axial shortening of column

STRENGHT CRITERIAL ANALYSIS :
It is important that the design building should perform through out its design life time without
collapse. We designed this particular bulding with utmost strenght.

we modified the strenght parameters of the structural elements as per IS code recommendations
to check the accurate strenght performance of building

S.NO STRUCTURAL CHANGE OF % EFFICENCY

2 BEAMS M2 , M3 0.35
3 COLUMNS M2 , M3 0.7
4 SHEAR WALLS -- --

Along with strenght criteria , we designed against the following

Torsional irregularity

Soft story

Vibration

Buckling

TORSIONAL IRREGULARITY :

We observed the torsional irregularity in y direction in the following floors i.e., greater than 1.2.

Then the torsional irregularity is countaracted by diapghram ecentricity, which is calculated

below.

Torsional irregularity has been noted at certain floors in Y direction. Hence amplification factor
has been used as per UBC 97 Clause No: 1630.7
VIBRATION:

we also designed the slabs againt vibration to make feel better with 0.5% of gravity.
The demand to capacity ratio is less than 1. Hence the building designed against vibration.

Buckling:

There is no need to design the bulding against buckling because the height to least lateral
dimenssion of building is less than 4.

H/W=14.5/9.22

=1.57 <4

NO NEED OF BUCKLING ANALYSIS

The building is safely designed for limit state of collapse as per IS code recomendations.
SLAB DESIGN
