1 Introduction
The SIP Software Transient Recorders (TRACOs) are mainly used to aid the Signal Processor (SIP)
developer in solving problems in the field. The TRACOs store signal waveforms from the SIP in a fault
situation, which can be sent electronically via email to the SIP developer for analysis. Triggering the
TRACOs are generally controlled by the Central Processor, but they can also be manually controlled
via the SIP itself. The 16 signals to be stored are specified by the SIP programmer, but can be modi-
fied by changing the address of the signal to be written to a SW TRACO channel. The triggering, re-
cording, and erasing of the Software TRACO are discussed in this document along with instructions
on how to generate *.PRN files for analysis.
The reader should be familiar with the SiBAS G and the SiBAS 32 monitor program.
Note: Henceforth, SIP Software TRACO will be referred to as TRACO. The reader should be aware
that there are differences between Hardware and Software TRACOs. This manual is only for the Soft-
ware TRACOs.

2 Requirements
• SiBAS Monitor program
• SWTRACO program (optional)
• MathCAD and analysis file (optional)

3 The Software Traco Menu

The functions of the SIP Software Traco Menu are described below.

1-4 Trigger signals -- The user has the options to designate a trigger signal, enable the trigger
signal, and invert the trigger signal.
5-6 Trigger block signals -- Useless. Not recommended
s Status-Display Traco -- Displays the status of the trigger and block signals
r Read out Traco -- writes the data stored in memory to the screen
e Exit -- Exit the Software Traco Menu Screen

4 Configuring the trigger conditions

Before attempting to configure the TRACOs, the Diagnostic codes should be viewed to see whether
the TRACOs are presently triggered or whether an event has occurred in the past. If the TRACOs
have already triggered, the memory will be full. If either one of these conditions exist, the memory
should be cleared to allow another reading. Keep in mind that it is not possible to clear the memory
while data is being delivered from the SIP to the ZR. The user must wait until the data transfer is com-
plete to clear the data.

4.1 Clearing the SW TRACO memory

• Choose desired SIP TRACO from the pull down menu entitled “TRACO”. All 5 SIPS have soft-
ware TRACO capabilities. It is necessary to both click on the pull down menu and press “Enter”
to select the SIP TRACO.
• Enter a lower case “c” to clear the memory (yes, it is case sensitive)
• The program will inform you that the memory has been cleared

The TRACOs have four possible trigger conditions. The trigger conditions are generally function block
OUTPUTs from within the SW. It is also possible to trigger the TRACOs via INPUTS but for most ap-
plications it is generally best to use outputs. The trigger conditions must be function block connector
names (TEST.OUT), as opposed to signal names ($MVBOK).

4.2 Setting the trigger conditions

• Enter the number (1-4) of the Trigger signal to be edited
• Enter the connector name. If there are more than 1 possibility for the connector name, the pro-
gram will prompt the user to enter the function package name as well
• Choose whether or not to enable the signal. It is generally best to run through and set the
Traco up completely before enabling the signal.
• Choose whether or not to invert the trigger signal. The trigger signal must be a 1, so it may be
necessary to invert the trigger signal.

At this point it is possible to add another trigger condition. To do so, complete the above steps
again for the next signal.
After all trigger signals have been designated and enabled, the program may be exited by typing
“e” t the main menu.

5 Reading out the data

The user can view the Statistics to see when one or more of the Tracos have triggered. Once trig-
gered, the data must be retrieved. There are two ways to retrieve the data, through the SIP or through
the Central Processor. The method of retrieving the data from the Central Processor is described
here.

5.1 Creating a record file

• From the Monitor program, type “s” (set), “s” (string), “/r” (record file) and type in a descriptive
name of up to eight characters, followed by the extension “mon”. For example, rotortmp.mon
• Type “s” (set), “r” (record), “c” (create) to begin writing to that file

5.2 Reading out the data

• Choose desired SIP TRACO from pull down menu entitled “TRACO”. It is necessary to click
on the pull down menu and press “Enter” to select the SIP TRACO.
• Enter a lower case “r” (read out traco)
At this point, the memory dump will begin writing the memory to the screen. It will take about 5
minutes to display all of the TRACO memory.
After all of the memory has been displayed, the program may be exited by typing “e” at the main
menu. Next the record must be saved.

5.3 Saving a record file

• Type “s” (set), “r” (record), “s” (stop) to stop writing to the file
The data has now been stored in a record file. Unless otherwise specified the file should be found
in the path
C:\prj\workbench\monitor\
