Classroom Rules and Consequences

General Rules:

1. Respect your classmates and the teacher.

2. Listen without interruption when others are speaking.

3. Follow the directions that are instructed.

4. Do not leave supplies/materials behind, always take care of your belongings.

5. Follow the rules of the handbook at all times.

Consequences:

1. First Offense- verbal warning

2. Second Offense- talk with guardians

3. Third Offense- principal’s office

How consequences are used with my rules:

The consequences are normally followed to the extent as written, although I maintain the

authority to alter them to fit any scenario as I feel appropriate. Depending on how serious the offense, the

student may receive less or more punishment. If one continually breaks the rules additional consequences

may be in order from myself or the principal (e.g. detention, in school suspension, out of school

suspension, expulsion).

Management and Organization:

● I will begin by posting my rules and consequences in broad site, for easy access and no confusion

of my expectations.

● I will require my students to learn my rules and consequences, and have clarity with them.

● Put everyday procedures on the board, in a place where they are easily seen.
● I will have a filing system, where every class will turn in homework to. This will include an in-

box and an out-box, homework will be turned into the in-box, then once graded I will place it in

the out-box for students to retrieve.

● Class content will be following the guidelines placed by the State of Michigan. Additional time

will be used for hands on learning activities (e.g. field trips, projects, outdoor learning).

Expectations for teacher:

● Show the importance of attendance by being present as much as possible, and always being on

time.

● Create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable and enjoy being present in.

● Treat each student equal and fair, present them all with the same learning opportunities.

● Push my students to reach their full potential at all times.

● Keep a strong bond with my students to gain their trust and respect, but do not let them disrespect

me.

Expectations for student:

● Come each day on time and with a positive attitude.

● Follow all of the rules posted, and in the student handbook.

● Push yourself and keep the attitude “you can only better yourself”.

Classroom Routine:

Beginning of day-

● Student will enter the classroom with enough time to get situated and prepared for the day.

● Students will turn in the homework due to the in-box, and then remain in proper seat.

● Students will have a prep question to begin each day, in order to get their minds working and

keep them occupied.

Group work-

● Students will first listen to instructions and find out the groups they are to be in.

● Students then when granted permission, can move to sit amongst their group.
● The groups will work together and delegate the responsibilities of the project to each member.

● The groups are to interact with one another but yet need to stay controlled, quiet, and calm.

Individual Work-

● Students will stay in appropriate seat and stay quiet.

● If requesting help they should first raise their hand or use a soft voice.

● Students will work alone and may not move to work with friends.

Lunchtime-

● Students will leave when given permission.

● Students will be polite when leaving the classroom.

Room Usage-

● Students may not go to the bathroom or get a drink when being given instructions, only at

appropriate times (e.g. individual work).

● Students will have only a certain number of passes in which they are allowed to leave the room:

to get supplies, use bathroom, or get a drink, unless granted additional permission by the teacher.

Dismissal of classroom-

● Students can take their graded homework out of the out-box home, they may not have other

students work.

● Students will make sure the room is clean and no belongings are left behind.

● Students will be respectful and polite when leaving the class, and not leave until dismissed by the

teacher.

Belief about classroom discipline for…

● Minor disruptions-

Minor cases will be handled differently depending on the seriousness of the situation. I will focus on the

disruption to prevent the situation from happening more frequently, and I will be sure the student

understands this behavior is not acceptable. Although, I will not take time away from those of the students
that do not deserve this distraction. I will try to deal with this verbal warning as quickly as possible to

keep focus on the lecture. This disturbance is a crucial time for the student, because handling this point

appropriately will result in fewer discipline issues in the future.

● Ongoing discipline issues-

With students that continually act up in class further steps must be taken to keep a stimulating

environment for the other students. This behavior may result in taking it out of the classroom to limit the

distraction, talking with a parent or guardian will be included in these ongoing behavior problems. It is

not fair to the rest of the students to be always interrupted by these behaviors.

● Aggressive and violent behaviors-

Students whom are aggressive or violent with their behaviors will not be tolerated. They will receive

removal from the classroom, possibly needing escort from teacher or other authority member. These

issues will be resolved through the handbook’s requirements and may also be altered accordingly. This

could possibly result in suspensions or explosion through the principal. Violence and aggression require a

harsh punishment because it is not taken lightly in this environment. These issues are very harmful to the

rest of the student’s peers, and we do not compromise student safety.
