3.2.1.A.1 – Observe and describe the properties of liquids and solids. Investigate what happens when solids are
mixed with water and other liquids are mixed with water.
BIG IDEAS/ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

BIG IDEA: Physical properties help us to understand the world.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What are physical properties of objects? How are physical properties of objects
discovered? What effect does energy have on the physical properties of objects?

OBJECTIVE(S) (Be sure to include all four parts):

Students will be able to repeat the words the teacher says 95% of the time
Students will be able to answer the teachers questions on the words 95% of the time
Students will have a better understanding of how ice melts and forms.

MATERIALS:
 Anchor chart
 Ice cub tray
 Freezer
 Water
 Worksheet

ACTIVITIES (There are three sections here):

OPENING (Introduction, purpose, hook)

 Teacher will introduce this lesson first thing in the morning.
 When science begins class will watch a video of heat mizer (Christmas song)
 Put water in ice tray and take it to the freezer
o Complete worksheet and predict what is going to happen.
Class will then begin the day like normal and we will come back to this lesson during science class.

BODY (Bulleted step by step/differentiation must be included)

 Class will walk to get ice trays and bring them back to the classroom
o Talk about what you see
o Why you think it happened
o What will happen now that it is sitting in our room
 Go over Anchor Chart at the carpet
o Complete a worksheet on what will melt and what will not melt
 Check back in with the ice trays and talk about what we see
o Fill in this section on the worksheet

CLOSURE (Wrap up and brief summary): How will you plan to restate the lesson objective?
