Industry Profile
Emma Khalid is an interior designer of which relates to a person decorating the indoor ambience
of a residential. What is an Interior Design? It is an art of service which enhance the interior of a
building like houses, apartments and office. The goals are making the environment more
mesmerizing and pleasing to the eye. As the job specification of the interior designer, they are
being trusted by the customer to decorate according to their needs.
So she should have the ability and skill to manage and coordinate the plan precisely that
includes making a research of the building, a conceptual development skilled, making thoroughly
inspection of the site, good at programming and have a great interpersonal skill in the situation to
meet the stakeholders. Moreover, she is capable of constructing the management and execute the

plan when persisted. Yet, it is proven by 1000 of houses she had been consultant on and
decorated.
A lot of history relating to the business that we may encounter and the development that which it
is now a vast business in this modern era. As an illustration, interiors are also being called as an
architect in ancient India because they share the same purpose. The evidence can be seen in the
references of Vishwakarma the architect-one of the gods Indian mythology. Sculpture depicting,
unique ancient texts and extravagant events that have designed by the 17th-century architects are
being promoted in the palace. Next, wall art paintings are a common feature of the palace also it
is commonly called as Havelis during the medieval times. Unfortunate for the most traditional
home has been demolished as to make way to the modern buildings (Dugar Divya, [December
2015])
As we go through the 17th,18th and into the early 19th century. Interior decoration was the concern
of the homemaker or the craftsman who would be advised on the artistic style of the interior
space. As some of the architects also hire artisans to complete the interior design of the building.
In the mid-to-late 19th- century interior design service had grown and expanded greatly and have
been commercialized ever since. So that is one of the few histories related to the interior design
profession.
Coming back to reality. There are a few things that need to put into consideration of becoming a
great interior designer. They should have known about calculating the exact measurement of the
building structure as they are in fine line design that could undertake the projects. They should
know the proper arrangement of the space layouts in the building. Even so, They should get an
approval from a structural engineer for a certain task. For instance, they could not just simply
alter the load-bearing walls without having their designs stamped for approval. Furthermore, they
should be highly skilled to create an interior environment that is healthy, safe and comfort
besides with a functional serve purpose according to the customer preferences. Color palettes

also need to include in their mastery as they are vital because it gives a huge impact in creating a
state of mind to the eye of the beholder.
Specialties
This unique profession may be divided in to several categories residential, commercial and
others like designing amusement park, theme park and events. Emma falls under the residential
category. She design based on the customer’s wants and needs. She is open to any suggestion
from them but some might prefer getting consults by the designer as they are more experienced.
Usually the customer will personally state their visons and their dream of a concepts, so the
designer will help in realizing it. To illustrate, Emma will advise the customer on what the best
scheme and features to fit in the concept and the suitable color palettes that will goes along with
it.
Before Emma started her own company, She had work with a few multinational company after
graduated and attach to her last few years with a company named Putra Jaya Holdings in charge
of Alamanda Putra Jaya then her contract ends December 2006. After that, she decided to start
her own business but the idea of it blurry and needless to say still finding that is suitable for her
own personal taste. All of a sudden, she founds her tune and new great ambition when she
decorated and designed beautifully her own house that she just moved to including the garden,
the bed room, in addition she painted her old furniture with the desired color which will match
with her personal liking and concept. From that very moment, her neighbours become interest of
her work and even asked for an advised and recommendation for their own sweet home to a
certain point. Emma thought this could her ideal business rather than giving free consultation. At
first, she concentrated on the design and decoration using wallpaper as she took a specialized
course in it for one year. She decided to took advantage by installing unique wallpaper thus
making her home gallery as a showroom to promote her business just because it is insufficient if
have done it a shop lot. Hence the company “My Home Gallery” is named after her work
success. Her business keep growing ever since as she also involved in renovation with the help
7|Page
of her workers and another primal factor is getting through recommendation from people without
having a burden to do mass marketing. .
Her business has established for 13 years now as it is started in July 2007 and frankly the
business is located at the comfort of her home as it is where the showroom is ventured.
Although she might have to go to various places to check the progression her client’s house.
ENTREPRENEURIAL CHARACTERISTICS
Perfectionist.
Emma is a perfectionist person. Everything and anything needs to be perfect according to her
needs. It would probably be catastrophe if she was to find out some of the settings or the
furniture was not in the correct order. For instance, one of her staff are asked to clean the
furniture Once the work had finished, all of a sudden they have got scold out by her just because
one of the furniture got a little stain on it and some it is a bit dusty. Consequently, the staff need
to reschedule their work time as to redeem the damage done. Another thing that she is very
particular about is the color coordination. If the concept already set to be black and white for a
certain area, she will make sure even to the tiniest would match the concept. Obviously, this
particular characteristic is crucial to own as interior designer.
Personalization
She tends to make every work personalize. It means that every decoration and design are being
made as though she owns the place. What do I say that? Well, normally every interior design
company will only do their work just because it is part of their job scope, but unlike her, when
she does her work, heart and soul poured into it and will follow along the job scope. Self
-satisfaction would be her main priority rather than profit. To illustrate, there is on time customer
budget is very limited but she wants a particular item to be put as part of the deco ration that
would enhance the design further, she will be willingly fork out her money to obtain them as for
her personal satisfaction. In a nutshell, this characteristic really helps in growing her career
8|Page
because it rarely found personally in an individual thus leads to a high demand from the
customer.
