Did you know that animation has a history that goes beyond 100 years.

Some of the
pioneers in animation include the French cartoonist Émile Cohl, who is also called
"the father of the animated cartoon. In 1908 he created Fantasmagorie, which is
considered to be the first fully animated film ever made.

The term Animation comes from two Latin words: “anima,” which means “life,” and
“animare” which means “to breathe life into”.

So animation - in a way - is about creating the illusion of life and motion -

through inanimate objects. And in our case of films, such an illusion is created
for a Camera. Every Camera makes a still image in a frame. And when a series of
these frames are viewed together in a quick progression ; we are able to create a
feeling of life and motion using objects or pictures or sektches and drawings.

When we hear the word animation, the first thing that comes to our minds are
cartoon films. But if you look around, you will be surprised how animation
surrounds us - in the regular movies that we watch or the video games that we play
or when we scroll through the GIFs or make memes on the internet.

Now let us look at some of the pioneering animators from the early 1900s.

Cartoonist and artist Winsor McCay is best known for the comic strip Little Nemo.
And British filmmaker J. Stuart Blackton is credited with creating the first
animation in America and was among the first in the world to use stop-motion as a
storytelling technique.

Georges Méliès was a French filmmaker who is known as the father of special
effects. In 1903, he appeared in one of his own films, The Prolific Egg, known for
its brilliant special effects.

Around the same time in India, our prolific filmmaker Dadasaheb Phalke made a short
called The Growth of a Pea Plant and introduced the concept of time-lapse
photography, with one frame shot per day.

It is said that Raja Harishchandra's story - in the form of an animated slide show
- was the influence behind his first movie - Raja Harishchandra, produced in 1913.
Raja Harishchandra is notable for being India's first indigenous silent feature
film.

2D animation has its origins in the 19th century when the folioscope and animated
picture books (called “flipbooks”) were created. These images vary gradually from
one page to the next and so when you pass them quickly, they seem to animate
themselves simulating a movement. Retinal persistence creates the illusion of
movement when the view is fixed on an image while the images are flipped.

Walt Disney, the great American producer, director, scriptwriter and animator,
refined this technique and created the first 2D animations like Mickey Mouse.

In 2D animations objects can only be moved horizontally (on the X axis), if we want
to simulate forward or backward movements, and vertically (on the Y axis) if we
want them to move up or down.

In 3D animations objects can also be moved along the Z axis and the person sees it
closer or further away. If we want this effect in 2D animation we must make the
object bigger or smaller.

The terms 2D and 3D are used to indicate dimensions.
The term 2D means Two-Dimensional and 3D means

Three dimensions. The 2D represents an object in two dimensions

while 3D represents it in three dimensions.

Diferencias entre 2D y 3D
The objects in a 2D animation are merely flat, such as a picture or a photograph.
In 3D animation objects are like sculptures since they have a front, back, top and
bottom. You can surround them and see them from any angle.
