Definite Indefinite

Definite Article – the (singular y plural)


Talk about something known and that you can identify. Something specific. It is often used before a
noun.
Hablan de algo conocido y que se puedes identificar. Algo especifico. Normalmente se usan antes de un
sustantivo.

Examples:
1. Please give me the controller.
2. Are you going to the party this weekend?
3. The enemy is hiding in the corner to your right.
4. When is the soccer game starting?
5. I closed the windows because there is a thunderstorm.
6. The spike is hidden in Area 51.
7. There is an earthquake! Hide under the table!
8. The player was running when he got shot from behind.

Indefinite Article – a, an (singular) | some (plural)
Talk about something unknown or that you can’t identify. Something not specific.
Hablan de algo no conocido o que no se puede identificar. Algo que no es especifico.

a, an
a – when the next word begins with a consonant.
an – when the next word begins with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u)

Examples:
1. Should I bring __a__ gift to the party?
2. I want _some_ videogames for Christmas.
3. Please give me __a__ piece of chocolate.
4. Do you want __some__ cookies with your milk?
5. He wrote __an__ autobiography.
6. Do you want __a__ drink? = Quieres una bebida?
7. I saw __a__ good movie yesterday?
8. He is __an__ excellent sniper.
9. I ate __a__ banana during my lunch break.
10. I want __an__ Xbox controller.

Exceptions
An article is not needed if you are talking about something in general.
Un articulo no es necesario si estas hablando de cosas en general.

I don’t like the coffee at Dunkin Donuts. [No me gusta el café de Dunkin Donuts.]

Fridge = refrigerator
Freezer = congelador
