1. Introduction to EmoSoftCom 3.11 Application
Crompton & Greaves (CG) is leading company in the area of motor control solutions and AC Drive
control. CG has various AC drives in the market that cater to different market segments. The
purpose of this front-end application is to control different AC Drives used in multiple Industrial
environments
The AC Drive requires software to configure, control, monitor, troubleshoot and maintain the AC
Drives. The software is used to improve reliability and to provide ease of use of AC Drives.
EmoSoftCom 3.11 is a software communication tool for Emotron products that can be run on
personal computers using Windows XP, Windows-7, Windows-8 and Windows-10

2. Physical connection
The computer can be connected to the Emotron product in the following ways:

2.1 RS232 Interface

This is a bi-directional communication link over RS232 and establishing the communication
between application and external devices, so that the application can control, configure and monitor
all external devices by exchanging messages. All received/transmitted messages use Modbus protocol.

CAUTION!

! Problems can occur while using non isolated ports because of the connection of the pins
that have different potential. This may damage the ports. Be extra careful when external
devices are connected to the terminals of the control board, as the 0V terminals of the
control board and the GND in the RS232 terminal have the same potential.

Note!
For RS232 communication a straight cable must be used. A cross-cable (zero modem cable) doesn’t
work.

CAUTION!

! Cable Fault and Hardware issues detection is not handled in application. Only
Communication failure message and time out shall be displayed.

2.2 RS485 Interface

This is a multi-node communication channel that N number of units can be connected to the
application simultaneously on RS485 interface. The application uses the Modbus protocol for all
received/transmitted messages to the external devices.

CG Drives & Automation 01-5597-01r1Introduction to EmoSoftCom 3.11 Application 3

2.3 Modbus/TCP Interface
The application uses the TCP/IP protocol to communicate with devices which are on Ethernet and
all the received/transmitted messages follow the Modbus protocol.

Single: Only once the trigger shall be considered, example: selected waveform cross the threshold
many times, only first time trigger shall be generated. Next time when the signal crosses the
threshold, trigger shall not be generated.
Multiple: Multiple Trigger waveform file shall be generated and stored in TRIGGER folder, there
are two options for multiple trigger
