16. Write the expression for the magnetic moment m due to a


planar square loop of side ‘l ’ carrying a steady current I in
a vector form. This loop is placed in a horizontal plane near
a long straight conductor carrying a steady current I,
at a distance l . Give reason to explain that loop will experience
a net force but no torque. Write the expression
for this force acting on the loop.

17. Three Identical specimen of magnetic materials Nickel, Antinomy, Aluminum are kept in a non uniform
magnetic field. Draw the modification in the field lines in each case. Justify your answer.

explain the following observations.

20. In a series RC circuit, R=30Ω, C= 0.25μF, V = 100V and angular frequency w=10,000 rad/s. Find the current in
the circuit and calculate the voltage across the resistor and the capacitor. Is algebraic sum of these voltages more
than the source voltage? If so, justify.

21. Find the expression for the natural oscillation frequency of an L .C oscillatory circuit. Also explain formation of
electromagnetic oscillations.

22. a) The output voltage of an ideal transformer connected to a 240V ac mains is 24V when this transformer is
used to light a bulb with rating 24V, 24W. Find current in primary coil.
b) Mention any two energy losses in a transformer.

Section-D ( FOUR MARKS )


23. Gaurav came to know that his uncle is suffering from severe joint pain but could not take any pain killer medicine
due to his heart problem, Gaurav had the knowledge of ‘Magnetic therapy’ and its effectiveness in joint pain
problem. Therefore he approached his uncle and convinced him about the efficiency of magnetic therapy and use
of powerful magnets. Gaurav took his uncle to a specialist, who suggested that some persons are the negative
magnetic field deficient due to electromagnetic pollution. In magnetic field therapy, supplementing the
patient's body with negative field energy has been found to restore balance and thus encourage healing process
without any side effect. Gaurav's uncle has impressed by the specialist doctor and then undergone treatment for
a few weeks. Now he felt better.
a) What values are exhibited by Gaurav.
b) A Rowland ring of mean radius 12cm has 2500 turns of wire wound on a ferromagnetic core of relative
permeability 1200. What current should be passed through the coil so as to produce a magnetic field of 3.0T.

Section – E ( FIVE MARKS EACH )

24. Use gauss law to derive the expression for the electric field between two uniformly charged large parallel sheets
with surface charge densities +σ and -σ Respectively. Hence calculate the electric field inside and outside the
parallel sheets if surface charge densities are. (i) +σ, -2σ (ii) +2σ, -σ (3+1+1)

25. a. Calculate the equivalent resistance of given electrical


network between A & B.
b. Also calculate the current through CD and ACB
if a 10V dc source is connected between A and B
and the values of R is assumed as 2R.

26. Explain with the help of a labelled diagram, the principle and construction of a cyclotron. Deduce an expression
for the cyclotron frequency and show that it does not depend on the speed of the charged particle.
