01 11 1st 60 mins March 10, 2020
AND MAINTENANCE
Learning Competency: Code:
(Taken from the Curriculum Guide) Prepare electrical materials and tools for the task. TLE_IAEI7/8UT-0a1
Key Concepts / Understandings to be
Developed
Demonstrates effective use of electrical materials and tools for the specified electrical task.
Domain OBJECTIVES:
Knowledge Identify electrical supplies, materials, and tools;
Skills Explain the importance of tool or equipment used in electrical writing installations.
Attitude Demonstrate open-mindedness in dealing with tasks.
Values Develop cooperation among others by working together as a team.
2. Content Understanding the Concepts in the Preparing Electrical Materials and Tools
3. Learning Resources Learning Module – Electrical Installation and Maintenance - internet
4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes each step will consume)
4.1 Introductory Activity 1. Routinary Activities:
A. Prayer
B. Attendance, Physical Arrangement Check
2. Stimulating Activity:
5 minutes The teacher will let the students play 4 PICS 1 WORD. The teacher will present 4
pictures and let the students guess the proper word/s.
Answer: tools, equipment, pliers, safety
4.2 Activity
The teacher will ask:
1. Can you name some of the electrical materials and tools you use at home?
The teacher will let the students write their answer on the board.
5 minutes Answer of the students may vary
Possible answers: Utility box, connectors, plug, fuse, junction box, conduits, circuit
breaker, electrical wire, pliers, screwdriver, electric drill, hammer, hacksaw, etc.
4.3 Analysis
The teacher will ask the students:
1. Why should appropriate tools or materials be observed in electrical wiring installations?
Possible answer:
Electrical tasks can be accomplished systematically to save time, effort, and
5 minutes resources. Most of the work cannot be done using bare hands. To do the task, proper
electrical tools/equipment is needed to perform the job. And it is important that the
one who will perform the task know the function/use of each tool and equipment for
his/her safety.
4.4 Abstraction The teacher will discuss the following:
1. Types of Tools and Equipment according to their function as per job requirement.
A. SCREWDRIVERS - These tools are made of steel hardened and tempered at the tip
used to loosen or tighten screws with slotted heads. They come in various sizes and
shapes.
1. Standard/Flat screwdriver
2. Philips screwdriver
3. Stubby screwdriver
4. Allen screwdriver/Wrench
B. HAMMERS - These are tools used in driving or pounding and pulling out nails. They
are made of hard steel, wood, plastic or rubber. The following are types of hammer:
1. Claw hammer
2. Mallet (rubber head)
3. Ballpeen hammer
C. PLIERS - made from metal with insulators in the handle and are used for cutting,
twisting, bending, holding, and gripping wires and cables.
1. Combination pliers
2. Side Cutting pliers
3. Long Nose pliers
D. WIRE STRIPPER - A tool used for removing insulation of medium sized wires ranging
from gauge #10 to gauge #16.
E. ELECTRICIAN’S KNIFE - used by linemen to remove insulation of wire and cables in
low and high voltage transmission lines.
F. PORTABLE ELECTRIC DRILL - A small drilling machine with a chuck capacity of ¼‖
to 3/8‖. It is used in making holes on metal sheets and concrete walls.
G. HACKSAW - tool is used to cut metal conduit and armored cable.
2. Types of Electrical Supplies and Materials according to their uses in a specific project.
A. CONVENIENCE OUTLET -a device that acts as a convenient source of electrical
energy for current consuming appliances.
15 minutes B. MALE PLUG - a device inserted to a convenience outlet to conduct electric current.
C. LAMP HOLDERS -devices that hold and protect the lamp.
D. SWITCH - a device that connects and disconnects the flow of electric current in a
circuit.
E. FUSE - a circuit protective device that automatically blows and cut the current when
and over load or short circuit happens.
F. CIRCUIT BREAKER - a protective device used to automatically blow and cuts the
current when trouble in the circuit such as short circuit or overload occurs.
G. JUNCTION BOX - an octagonal shaped electrical material where the connections or
joints of wires are being done.
H. UTILITY BOX - a rectangular shaped metallic or plastic (PVC) material in which flush
type convenience outlet and switch are attached.
I. FLAT CORD - Is a duplex stranded wire used for temporary wiring installation and
commonly used in extension cord assembly.
J. ELECTRICAL WIRE/CONDUCTOR - electrical material that could be:
1. Stranded wire
2. Solid wire
K. CODUITS/PIPES - electrical materials used as the passage of wires for protection
and insulation.
L. CLAMPS - electrical materials used to hold and anchor electrical conduits in its
proper position.
M. CONNECTORS - used to attach metallic or non-metallic conduit to the junction or
utility boxes.
The teacher will encourage the students to ask for questions or clarifications during the
discussion phase.
The teacher will also give examples for each kind of tools and equipment. And to give
chance for students, the teacher will also ask them to give their own explanations and
examples.
4.5 Application/Activity The teacher will let the students’ group into two. They will perform the tic-tac-toe
activity. The rules will be presented and explain the mechanics. Teams take turns to
choose a square. Team __ goes first and selects a square. Each Tic-Tac-Toe square
contains 1 question, if answered correctly Team __ gets the square. If answered
15-20 minutes incorrectly, another team may steal the question and if answered correctly, Team ___
gets the square. Keep playing until one team has completed the game or form a
horizontal or vertical straight line or diagonal line.
4.6 Assessment Answer Self-check 1.1 of Electrical Installation Maintenance – Learning Module page 20 in
a ¼ sheet of paper.
Answers: 1. Clamp; 2. Utility Box; 3. Wire Stripper; 4. Lamp holder; 5. Side Cutting Pliers;
10 minutes 6. Metal Conduit; 7. Stubby screwdriver; 8. Solid wire; 9. Surface type; 10. Pliers; 11.
