Business strategy reflective report

I am Chew Yeuw. The report is based on the MGT4101 Business Strategy course, which is
taught by the Dr. Sethela. First of all, I am appreciating that I could take this subject and
taught by one of the best lecturer of me which lead me to gain more knowledge about
business, develop a superior sense of self confidence and challenges in global environment.
Dr. Sethela is a very good lecturer who teach and deliver the idea and knowledge of business
and strategies detailed and unselfish. We were encouraging to develop superior confidence
through this subjects and group presentation. In this subject we also learned on how to sort
out challenges and using strategies to handle organization issues in global environment.

The group assignment we did is slides presentations and and I was appointed as a group
which title of Boeing executives. Our team members are assigned in a self-organizing
manner, and we have finalized the team members in the third week. In college, working with
a team is often very difficult. However, for those who are planning to pursue a business
career, it is important to learn to work well with others. Teamwork makes the dream work,
but a vision becomes a nightmare when the leader has a big dream and a bad team (Maxwell,
2008). One of the main things that my team is doing well is to work together. Our meeting
was very productive and each team member quickly completed the assigned task. Another
thing we do well is collecting information.

We had our group meeting in 23rd of September at INTI library and also my house on 18th
October. We were discussing about the topic of Boeing and distributed the parts and slides to
each person in the group. I am very glad that everyone in the group are able to attend in every
meeting and showing their passionate in providing idea. All of us done very well in gathering
information and also completing the tasks that distributed for each person before the due date.
I can see that everyone is putting effort on doing this assignment as everyone is very active
on discussing the works in our WhatsApp group chat.

Our team actually performed very well in this group assignment and presentation, because
during the presentation, the lecturer’s feedback was: We have a good verbal presentation,
clear speech and confidence level, without refer to notes. The reason why we can make a
good speech is mainly because of the high level of cooperation we have together. We believe
in practice make perfects (Richmond, 2007). We were doing oral presentation and practices
the presentation skills together since before 2 weeks of presentation date, because some of us
got vacation during the the week before presentation so we have to prepare well very early.
Through our good cooperation, we are able to find a lot of information to support our content.
This experience teaches us to take advantage of the individual strengths of each team member
in teamwork. For instance, we distribute the job base on the personal experience and
knowledge of certain part, such as I am good in environmental analysis in the industry so I
was in charge in the part of environment analysis.

I think that the biggest challenge that lead to our group conflict is coordination cost.
Coordination costs represent time and vitality that group work expends that individual work
doesn’t, including organizing plan, arrange meeting, integrating the time it takes to collect
personal commitments and so on. The time spent on every one of these assignments may not
be incredible, yet together they are noteworthy (University, 2012). We were having conflict
on the meeting time and location, and also the task assigned. In this case, we were assigned
the different role of everyone such as group leader and scheduler. We also emphasized on
build communication for conflict resolution and this is so effective.

However, we got our mistake and weakness which wrongly arrange the sequence of slides
and content focus was a little bit too general. We having another mistake is the
communication and time management issues as we were told last minute that one of the
group member unable to attend the presentation during the day due to personal schedule
issues. This has affect the sequence and quality of present because we had to take over his
part without any preparation of that part.

On a personal level, despite the fact that my public speaking had improved during this
semester, regardless I felt fairly awkward talking in front of class. Therefore, I tend to rush
the speak and there were a couple of times when I had forgotten what I was stating. However,
I had learnt the important of confidence during the speech because it can Eliminate
distracting ideas and enabling you to focus on delivering the message (Nelson and Pearson,
2005). Many of the speakers' ideas on the stage are blank because they have too many
controversial ideas about their weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Building confidence allows
you to think and deal with your own meditations directly, rather than dealing with your own
ideas.
In a nutshell, finishing this assignment taught me how to make an effective presentation.
Perhaps more importantly, I understand that the way we deliver the information is more
significant than the information itself. To become a good presenter, we need to get well
preparation and lot of practicing in front of audience in order to improve our confidence
level. Lastly, I want to thank Dr. Sethela again for his patience and selfless teaching, which
helps us learn a lot from different aspects; and also appreciate that my group members are
showing full effort on doing this assignment.
