Method Statement For Field Permeability Test PDF

The document provides a method statement for conducting a field permeability test according to BS EN ISO 22282-2:2012. It describes setting up a well with a screened section and gravel pack, and performing either a rising head or falling head test to measure the rate of change in water level over time. It then gives the formula to calculate permeability based on factors like the radius and length of the test section, and slope of the line from a graph of the natural log of the head versus time. Data from a sample test is shown in a table with columns for time elapsed, depth of water, and change in head.

Method statement For Field Permeability Test-MS 05

Method Statement for Field Permeability Test (BS EN ISO 22282-2:2012),

Variable Head Permeability Test

The function and permeability test is to be carried out in the completed water
standpipe/observation well/ in borehole.

Permeability is a function of the screen/perforated area of the well and the permeability
of the surrounding soils. The ground water level prior to the test will be recorded.

The first operation will be preparing a 4” diameter well (with slotted screen pipe and
gravel pack around the hole, down to the depth, where the permeability of soil is
required.

Upon completion of installation of well, the ground water table will be measured.
Depending on the groundwater condition either rising head or falling head permeability
test will be performed inside the well.

In the event of rising head, the water from the well to be pumped out, while for falling
head test, water will be added to the well. The water in the well will be then allowed to
equalize with that in the ground, the actual head being measured at intervals of time
from the commencement of the test.

The rate of rise/fall in water level with time at specified intervals will be then recorded
until the water level reach closer to the recorded ground water level or until a maximum
of two hours after the commencement of the test. (Rise or Fall of water can be
measured using Dipmeter or programmed Water Level Transducer)

The formula used for evaluating the field permeability is outlined below for the borehole
extended in uniform soil in accordance with BS EN ISO 22282-2:2012, velocity graph
method.
