IntroCtrlSys - Final Exam - Fall Semester - 1516 PDF

The document is a final exam for a control systems course. It contains 3 problems: the first asks to analyze and design a controller for a system with transfer function (s+1)(s+3), the second asks to design a controller to meet phase margin and error specifications for a system with transfer function 10e-0.2s/(s+5), and the third asks to verify controllability/observability and design a state feedback controller and observer for a system with state space matrices provided.

Faculty of EE Engineering First semester, Academic year 2015-2016

Department of Automatic Control Course: Introduction to Control Systems
Exam date: 14/12/2015

Problem 1: (3.0 points) Given a control system in the figure 1 with G ( s ) =
( s + 1)( s + 3)

R(s) Y(s)
+_ GC (s ) G (s)

Figure 1

1.1 Let GC(s) = 1, caculate the percentage of overshoot, settling time (5% criterion) and
steady-state error to unit step input.
1.2. Design the GC(s) so that the steady-state error to step input is 0 and closed-loop system
has a pair of complex poles at -3  j 3
10e-0.2 s
Problem 2: (3.0 points) Given a control system in the figure 1 with G ( s) =
s( s + 5)
2.1 Design the controller GC(s) so that the closed-loop system has phase margin
FM * ³ 600 and steady-state error to unit ramp input ess* = 0.025 . Plot Bode diagram and
use it in your design steps.
2.2 Estimate the percentage of overshoot and settling time of the system after compensation

Problem 3: (4.0 points) Given a system described by the state equation:

 x (t )  Ax(t )  Bu(t )

 y (t )  Cx(t )
é0 1ù
ú , B    , C = [1 0]

3.1 Verify the the system is controllable and observable.

3.2 Design the state feedback controller so that poles of the closed loop system are -5  j 3
3.3 Design the state observer so that the observer has double poles at -50 .
