PRESENT SIMPLE OR PRESENT CONTINUOUS?

1 Complete the sentences with the verbs in brackets. Use the Present Simple or
Present Continuous.

1. My mother washes (wash) her car every weekend.


2. I'm doing (do) an English grammar exercise at the moment.
3. The British sometimes eat (eat) fish and chips for dinner.
4. My friends and I are going (go) shopping tomorrow.
5. On Saturdays, I don't get up (not get up) till 12.00.
6. Our teacher is ill. She is not working (not work) today.

2 Write the questions for the answers below. Pay attention to the words in bold.
1. Does he love chocolates ?
Yes, he loves chocolates.
2. Where do they live?
They live in Paris.
3. What are the children doing ?
The children are playing tennis.
4. Why are you wearing a coat ?
I’m wearing a coat because it is cold outside.
5. When does she finish school?
She finishes school at 3.30.

3 Complete the sentences with the verbs in brackets. Use the Present Simple or
Present Continuous.
