Published October 25, 2020 8:05am

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Saturday said it has filed criminal charges
against alleged smugglers of agricultural products.

The BOC's Bureau's Action Team Against Smugglers (BATAS) on Friday filed
criminal raps before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Santo Nino
Marketmarket Co. (SNMC) and Navotas Fish Traders Association Market
(NFTAM).

SNMC was charged for alleged unlawful importation of squid balls, Peking
duck and chicken wings, contrary to the company's declaration.

The BOC said SNMC's alleged unlawful shipment was discovered on June 16,
2019 in the Port of Manila.

Meanwhile, the NFTAM is facing charges for alleged misdeclaration of a

shipment of frozen bonito.

The shipment was discovered in October 2019 at the Manila International

Container Port.

The BOC said 41 cases have already been filed before the DOJ against
importers and customs brokers for violation of customs laws, rules and
regulations. —KG, GMA News
