D. Presentation
a. Introduction of New Topic
Since you are done discussing the first two
theorems, today we will discuss the remaining theorems.
b. Lesson Proper/Discussion
As a sort of review, again what is tangent line?
Yes Abby? Students are their hands.
Thank you. Tangent is a line that intersects the
circle at one time.
Theorem 103: The Tangent Segments Theorem
If two tangent segments are drawn to a circle from
an external point, then
a. The two tangent segments are congruent,
b. The angles between the tangent segments and the
line joining the external point to the center of the Students are listening
circle are congruent.
For example, in the Figure, FAIR is a
circumscribed quadrilateral. Points L, O, V, and E are the
points of Tangency. If FL = 3cm, AO = 2.4cm, and RV =
2.5cm, Find:
a. EF
b. FA
c. ER
d. RI
e. Perimeter of FAIR Students are listening
Solution:
a. EF = 3 cm since EF = FL by Theorem 103.
b. FA = FL + LA,
Since the value of LA = AO which is 2.4cm by
theorem 103, therefore
FA = 3 + 2.4
FA = 5.4cm
Students are listening attentively.
Now what is the measure of ER?
Okay Allen. Students are raising their hands
2.5cm since RV = ER by The tangent
That is right. segments theorem.
