Gonzales Experiment 4

This experiment uses an online circuit construction kit to learn how to build circuits with different components like bulbs, batteries, switches, wires, voltmeters and ammeters. The student constructed a circuit with these components and recorded voltage, current and resistance values for bulbs with resistances of 10 ohms, 50 ohms and 80 ohms. Analysis of the data showed that voltage stayed constant while current decreased as resistance increased, and bulb brightness also decreased with higher resistance and lower current.

COLLEGE PHYSICS 2 LABORATORY

EXPERIMENT 4
Circuit Construction Kit: DC
Name: Beverly Ann Gonzales BSECE-2 Subject: PHYS211-L 9:00 – 10:30 MW

Objective:

To learn how to use the circuit construction kit in performing interactive experiments on electric
circuits.

Procedure:

1. Open/copy the link https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulations/filter?sort=alpha&view=grid

2. Click the box Intro
3. Watch a short video on how to use the circuit construction Kit: DC – You Tube
4. For your experiment use a bulb, battery, switch, wires, voltmeter and ammeter.
5. Draw a diagram of your circuit and fill up the given table.

Resistance (bulb) Voltage Current

10 Ohm’s 57.50V 5.75A
50 Ohm’s 57.50V 1.15A
80 Ohm’s 57.50V 0.72A

Diagram:
Observation and Analysis:

In this virtual laboratory, a circuit was made from the Circuit Construction Kit using the

following materials: bulb battery, wires, voltmeter and ammeter.

The following observation and analysis can be made from the gathered data: (1) Voltage is

always at constant value (57.5 V) in Set A, Set B and Set C. (2) As Resistance (in the bulb) is

increased, the current of the circuit decreases and vice versa – such as in Set A with 10 ohms,

the current value is 1.15A, in Set B (50 ohms), the current decreases to 1.15 A, and in Set C (80

ohms), the current value is 0.72 A. (3) The bulb is showing more brightness when Resistance is

low and current is high. (4) The switch controls the flow of the current in the circuit – so when the

switch is open, current is 0 A and thus no flow of electrons. (5) Low voltage on the battery will

result to low brightness on the bulb. (6) If resistance is set to 0, current will be overflowing which

results for the battery to be on fire. And lastly, (7) the ammeter measures the current of the circuit

while the voltmeter measures the voltage of the battery
