Hydraulics - Assignment 1

The document is an engineering assignment that analyzes water flow through a 1,200mm diameter transmission pipe. It provides information about the pipe, flow rate, reservoir elevation, pressure meter reading and location. The problem is to determine the head loss in the pipe and the friction slope. The document shows the given values and equations, free body diagram, solution steps using the energy equation, and calculations to find the head loss of 46.27 m and friction slope of 0.023.

Problem:

A 1,200mm diameter transmission pipe carries 126 li/s of water from an elevated
reservoir with a water surface elevation of 540 m. Two kilometers from the reservoir, at an
elevation of 434 m, a pressure meter reads 586 Kpa. If there are no pumps and turbines
between the reservoir and the meter location, determine the head loss in the pipe (in m) and
the friction slope.

Given:

Φ = 1200 mm x Φ = 1.2 m Q = 126 x
