7. Should Reverend Bennett be trusted as a source of information? Why or why not? [1 Mark]
Yes he should be. He is a reverend so we expect him to be an ethical man who wouldn’t lie. He
also is not presented as having any motive to want to tell lies about Milicent.

8. Identify by name the speaker who uses logos appeal in the passage and list TWO pieces of
evidence of the use of this appeal. [1 Mark for correct speaker, ½ mark for each evidence]
Both Milicent and Jerry use Logos Appeal
Milicent:
(i) I was in my manager’s office working on a proposal
(ii) I left my phone in my office and was caught up
(iii)The only time I have been in Chester’s car is when all of us from the office go to lunch
Jerry:
(i) you can’t give me a straight answer and expect me to accept everything you say
(ii) Is it a coincidence that you came home 5 hours late

them together are usually guilty
Minor premise: Three different persons saw Milicent with Chester

SECTION B – 4 marks
Examine the image below and in no more than 100 words write a response in which you:
(a) Clearly construct the argument being presented in the image
(b) Comment on the effectiveness of the image in making the argument you constructed in (a)

(a) Men who perpetrate violence or are abusers of their spouses also intimidate them
into keeping quiet about the abuse.
(b) The image is effective in that the male hand over the woman’s bruised face
identifies the issue of abuse. The black background and clothing also help to create
the idea that the issue is a sad/somber one.

However, more could have been done to bring out the issue of domestic violence.
The woman’s injuries could have been more pronounced and more contrast should
have been made between the colour of the woman’s sweater and the hair on the
man’s hand. This would have ensured that there is no confusion that the hand is
that of a man.
