Group 3 - Case – Tanaka Komuten

Guideline questions to be used during case discussion. The group is encouraged to


use other aspects during the discussion.

 Is there an industry logic/rationale in JV proposal?


 What is the market rationale?
 What is the rationale from Tanaka’s POV?
 What is the rationale from Atlas POV?
 Who is likely to benefit more?
 How can the other party avoid that?
 What are the strategies you adopt/conditions you include in negotiation to
avoid/mitigate the risks and address concerns?
 What strategies you will adopt to get better advantage to your firm?
 What are the learning points? State at least 5 generic learning points you learnt
from the case in bullet point form
 You are required to analyze the case from the perspective of each party. You may
role play.

After case discussion in the class the group has to submit a 3-5 page group report on
the case discussion and learning points within one week.
