Mechanics and Guidelines for the SPOKEN POETRY CONTEST

TIME: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

1. The contest is open to Grade 7,8,9, and 10 students of RMHS. There will be two sets of winners
(Grade 7&8 Category, Grade 9&10 Category)
2. One contestant per section from the abovementioned grade levels.
3. All spoken poetry speeches must be delivered in English and should be memorized. Reading
from any written note is strictly not allowed.
4. Each spoken poetry piece should follow the theme of this year’s Reading Month which is
“Reading Makes Learning as One.”
5. All entries must be recorded through video (mp4 format) attached with a copy of their original
piece of spoken poetry that includes their proper with their name, grade level, section and their
English teacher.

6. The prerecorded video shall run for a minimum of 2 minutes and maximum of 3 minutes.
However, deduction shall not be made if the delivery is less than the maximum time frame.

7. Appropriate attire for the spoken piece shall be worn by the contestant during delivery.
8. The contestant may add sounds or musical background to compliment the delivery of his or her
piece but no deductions shall be made if the contestant chooses to leave this part out.
9. Criteria for judging:

 Relevance to the theme 15%
 Message 15%
 Originality 20%
2. Delivery: --- 50%
 Voice and Diction 15%
 Conviction and Effectiveness 15%
 Stage Presence 10%
 Attire 10%
3.Popularity 10%

10. Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
