Transfer Activity:: Radical and Exponential Clock

This document provides instructions for an activity where students will create a radical and exponential clock using a single number from 1-10. For each hour (1-12), the student must write a radical or exponential expression equaling that hour number using only the single chosen number. An example clock using number 9 is provided. Students will submit their clock as a soft copy to their math teacher. They will be graded based on mathematical representations, accuracy, and creativity.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY:
Radical and Exponential Clock
(Mini-Task #2)
Using the properties of radicals and exponents, your task is to create a layout of a
Radical and Exponential Clock wherein you are to choose a number from 1-10. And
using a single number, you need to come up with an expression that will be equal to
one, two, up until 12 (the numbers is a usual clock.)

Here’s an example of a Radical and Exponential Clock of “Number 9”. (Note that since
“9’ clock is already given as an example, you can no longer use the number 9.

9
On this example, the hour #12 is written as 9+ . If we simplify it,
√9
9 9
9+ =9+
√9 3
¿ 9+3
¿ 12

To put it simply, you need to construct 12 expressions where each contain an exponent and radical, considering that you
are only allowed to use a single number.

You don’t have to create a paper clock; you could just use MS Word and MS Powerpoint for the layout and design. A soft
copy will be submitted to your Mathematics teacher afterwards.

GUIDE QUESTIONS:

 What mathematical concepts have used to arrive with the radical

expressions the coincides with the numbers on the clock?
 Are there any instances when one expression can result two or more
numbers on the clock?
 What difficulties have you encountered during the clock-making?

Your Radical Art will be graded based on the following criteria: Mathematical Representations and Solutions,
Accuracy of Computations, and Creativity
