1.Let x be the number of students who planned a picnic.
Original cost of food for each member = Rs. 2000/x
Five students failed to attend the picnic. So, (x-5) students attended the picnic.
New cost of food for each member = Rs. 2000/(x-5)
According of the given condition,

Number of students who attended the picnic = x-5 = 23-5= 20

Amount paid by each student for the food = Rs. 2000/(25-5) = Rs. 2000/20 = Rs.100
2. The number 4, 5 and 6 are three consecutive positive integer.

Solution:

Let the first number be x, then the other numbers will be (x+1),(x+2)

According to question:-

On simplifying above equation we get,

x(2x+11)-4 (2x+11)=0

(x-4)(2x+11)

On solving we will get

Since x can’t be negative.

Now substituting value of x in x+1 and x+2 we get

x = 4 and x=6

So numbers will be 4, 5 and 6.

5. Let the speed of car at A be x kmph

and the speed of car at B be y kmph
As per the question,
5x - 5y = 100
x - y = 20 ... (1)
and x + y = 100 ... (2)
Solving (1) and (2), we get,
x = 60 and y = 40
Speed of the car at A = 60 kmph
Speed of the car at B = 40 kmph

8.

X² -75X + 30X - 2250 = 0

=> X (X -75) + 30(X -75) = 0
=> (X+30)(X-75) = 0
=> X = 75 as Numbers of articles can be negative
9. Let present age of father = x
and present age of son = y
Two years ago,
x - 2 = 3(y - 2) ..............1
2

Three years hence,

x + 3 = 4(y + 3) ............2
Now, from equation 2,
x = 4(y + 3) - 3
From equation 1,
=> 4(y + 3) - 3 - 2 = 3(y - 2) 2

=> 4y + 12 - 5 = 3(y + 4 - 4y)

2

=> 4y + 7 = 3y + 12 - 12y
2

=> 3y + 12 - 12y - 4y - 7 = 0
2

=> 3y - 16y + 5 = 0
2

=> (y - 5)*(3y - 1) = 0
=> y= 5, 1/3
Since age can not be in fraction,
So y = 5
From equation 2,
x + 3 = 4(5 + 3)
=> x + 3 = 4*8
=> x + 3 = 32
=> x = 32 - 3
=> x = 29
So, present age of father = 29
and present age of son = 5
10. Let the distance covered by the peacock be AC = x m
Hence the distance covered by the snake is DC = x m
In right ΔABC, by Pythagoras theorem we have
AC2 = AB2 + BC2
x2 = 92 + (27 – x)2
⇒ x2 = 81 + 729 – 54x + x2
⇒ 54x = 810
∴ x = 15

12. Let the number of students be x and cost per sudent y

So, xy = 240 i.e. y = 240/x

Also, since 4 students failed to go resulting in the increase of cost by Rs 5

(x-4) (y+5) = 240

xy + 5x - 4y -20 = 240
240 + 5x - 4*240/x - 20 = 240
5x2 - 20x - 960 = 0
x2 - 4x - 192 = 0
(x-16) (x+12) = 0
x = 16 or x = -12

Since, x can't be negative, hence, x = 16.

So, the number of the students who went to picnic = x-4 = 12.
Solution;-

Let P be the position of the pole and A and B be the opposite fixed gates.
PA - PB = 7 m
⇒a-b=7

⇒ a = 7 + b .........(1)

In Δ PAB,
AB² = AP² + BP²
⇒ (17) = (a)² + (b)²

⇒ a² + b² = 289

⇒ Putting the value of a = 7 + b in the above,

⇒ (7 + b)² + b² = 289

⇒ 49 + 14b + 2b² = 289

⇒ 2b² + 14b + 49 - 289 = 0

⇒ 2b² + 14b - 240 = 0

Dividing the above by 2, we get.
⇒ b² + 7b - 120 = 0

⇒ b² + 15b - 8b - 120 = 0

⇒ b(b + 15) - 8(b + 15) = 0

⇒ (b - 8) (b + 15) = 0

⇒ b = 8 or b = -15
Since this value cannot be negative, so b = 8 is the correct value.
Putting b = 8 in (1), we get.
a=7+8
a = 15 m
Hence PA = 15 m and PB = 8 m
So, the distance from the gate A to pole is 15 m and from gate B to the pole is 8 m
Answer.

The answer can be proved also.

AB² = AP² + BP²

17² = 15² + 8²
289 = 225 + 64
289 = 289

19. tep-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of students = x

Number of students who visited old age home =

Number of students who went for nature walk = 16

Number of students who opte for tree plantation =

According to question

= 16 +

- 16 =

3x - 128 = 8

(3x - 128)² = 64x

9x² + 16384 - 768x = 64x

9x² - 832x + 16384 = 0

9x² - 576x - 256x + 16384 = 0

9x(x - 64) - 256(x - 64) = 0

(x - 64)(9x - 256) = 0

x - 64 = 0 or 9x - 256 = 0

x = 64 or x = (neglected)

So, total number of students = 64

20.
let the original speed of train be x km/hr
New speed = (x + 250) km/hr

We know that,

Time = Distance / Speed

Given : A plane left 30 minutes or 1/2 hours later than the scheduled time.

According to the question,

=> 1500/x - 1500/(x + 250) = 1/2

=> (1500x + 37500 - 1500x)/x(x + 250) = 1/2

=> 2(37500) = x(x + 250)

=> 75000 = x² + 250x

=> x² + 250x - 75000 = 0

=> x² + 1000x - 750x - 75000 = 0

=> x(x + 1000) - 750(x + 1000) = 0

=> (x - 750) (x + 1000) = 0

=> x = 750 or x = - 1000

∴ x ≠ - 1000 (Because speed can't be negative)

Hence,

Its usual speed = 750 km/hr

25. Let the piece of cloth is x metre and it costs Rs.y/metre. Then by the given conditions -
∴, xy=200 -------------(1) and
(x+5)(y-2)=200
or, xy+5y-2x-10=200
or, 200+5y-2x-10=200
or, 5y-2x-10=0
or, 5y=2x+10
or, y=(2x+10)/5
Putting in (1),
x(2x+10)/5=200
or, x(2x+10)=200×5
or, 2x²+10x=1000
or, x²+5x-500=0
or, x²+25x-20x-500=0
or, x(x+25)-20(x+25)=0
or, (x+25)(x-20)=0
either, x+25=0
or, x=-25
or, x-20=0
or, x=20
Since the length of the cloth can not be negative,
∴, x=20 metre
Putting in (1),
20y=200
or, y=10
∴, the cloth is 20 m long and the original rate is Rs. 10/metre. Ans.

26. A train travels at a certain average speed for a distance of 54 𝑘𝑚 and then travels a distance of
63 𝑘𝑚 at an average speed of 6 𝑘𝑚/ more than the first speed. If it takes 3 hours to complete the
total journey, what is its first speed? CBSE
Distance = 54 km
Let the average speed be x
Distance= 63km
The average speed to cover this distance = x+6
Total Time Taken= 3 hr.
D/S =t
therefore, 54/x + 63/x+6 = 3
54(x+6) +63x =3x(x+6)
3x^2 - 99x - 324=0
x=36, -3
Hence x= 36km/hr

NOW CROSS MULTIPLY
8x+24=x²+6x
x²+6x-8x-24
x²-2x-24
x²-6x+4x-24
x(x-6)+4(x-6)
(x+4)(x-6)
x=-4(neg) x=6
ANIL TAKE 6DAYS FINISH WORK SEPARATELY
NOW
VARUN TAKE (X+6) FINISH WORK SEPARATELY
∴ 6+6=12

29. Let he bought x books for rs 80

So the cost of each book was 80/x
If the cost of each books were re 1 less then he can buy 4 more books
So, he can buy x+4 books
So the cost of each of the book would be
80/(x+4)
According to the question,
80/x-80/(x+4)=1
(80x+320-80x)/(x^2 +4x)=1
x^2+4x=320
x^2+4x-320=0
x^2+20x-16x-320=0
x(x+20)-16(x+20)=0
(x+20)(x-16)=0
Therefore, x= -20, 16
As x wouldnt be negative because quantity of book cant be negative so x=16
So he bought 16 books

time taken by larger tap = x - 9

In 1 hour, the smaller tap will fill 1/x of tank

In 1 hour, the larger tap will fill 1/(x-9) of tank.

In 1 hour both the tank will the tank = ⅙

In 1 hour both the tank will fill the tank= 1/x + 1/x-9

⅙ = (x-9)+ (x)/(x) (x-9)

⅙ = 2x-9/x²-9x

6(2x-9) = x²-9x

12x-54= x²-9x
x²- 9x-22x +54= 0

x²- 21x+54= 0

x²-18x-3x +54=0
