THE BICOL UNIVERSITARIAN’S STAFF

EXAM 2020

INSTRUCTIONS:

Hello, applicant! Thank you for taking the time to apply for The Bicol Universitarian’s Staff
Exam 2020.

As you already know, the application for The Bicol Universitarian’s Staff Exam 2020 is
composed of two parts: written exam and interview. You will be allotted with five days to
accomplish the written exam and once the exam is accomplished, just wait for further
announcements for the scheduled interview.

Please note that you may begin the written exam today, August 24. The deadline for the written
examination is on Friday, August 28, 2020, 11:59 PM. Kindly compile your outputs into a
single PDF file to be sent to [email protected]. Late submissions will receive 10 points
deduction on the final score. Applicants found with evidence of plagiarism shall be disqualified.

Announcement of the official roster of new staff members for the academic year 2020-2021 will
be on August 31, 2020.

1. NEWS. Write two (2) straight news article. The first news must be related to any event or
issue in Bicol University while the second news must be related to the community. Both written
news article must be timely and relevant to the student body. Intensify your lead and come up
with a striking headline. Cite your sources and observe accuracy of data. Submission of
published news articles shall result to disqualification. 20 points

2. EDITORIAL. Write an editorial article on the performance and accessibility of Bicol


University Online Registration System (BU- ORS) which was used for the online enrolment
in BU. Use facts to support your stand. 15 points

3. FEATURE. Write a feature story about the struggles of students in attending online classes
in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. You may choose any angle. Make sure your article is
based on facts. 10 points

4. OPINION. Write an opinion piece on President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision in accepting


Russia’s Covid-19 vaccine offer. Feel free to choose a stand. 10 points

5. SPORTS. Write a play-by-play sports article (suggested to follow the rule of having one
sentence per paragraph; with a minimum of 16 paragraphs) on Philippines vs Japan Sepak
Takraw game last June 27, 2019. Observe proper use of sports lingo in the sports news. You

6. DEVELOPMENTAL COMMUNICATION. Write a DevComm story based on Jamaica’s


energy policy revamp for COVID-19 recovery. You may conduct further research for additional

7. ESSAY. Write an essay about how you plan to deal with your duties as a staffer of The Bicol
Universitarian and as a student. (Max of 300 words) 5 pts.
8. LITERARY ATTEMPT. Write a literary piece with the theme of “Life in the pandemic”. 5 pts.

9. COPYREADING AND HEADLINE WRITING. Using the copy reading symbols, edit the copy
and put an appropriate headline. 15 points
