Fast School of Management 3D Printers: Akash Ahmed Kalhoro 17I-0854 Bba-F

3D printing has transformed from science fiction to reality, taking manufacturing industries by storm since the 1990s. While 3D printing will not replace traditional manufacturing quickly, it is expected to optimize industries by eliminating outdated production methods. 3D printing allows for on-demand production of complex models comparable to printing documents on a printer. Industries are likely to adopt 3D printing due to lower production costs from creating multiple designs on one device versus separate processes. The author believes 3D printing will further improve over time to fully replace traditional manufacturing through increased efficiency and time savings.

Science fiction is not only found in movies anymore but also is being transformed into
reality and the invention of 3D printing is prime example of it. Recently it has taken the
manufacturing industries across the globe by storm even though the idea was first addressed in
late 60’s but because of lack of resources it could not come into practice until early 90’s and this
all has happened in very short span of time. Even though it will not replace the manufacturing
industries very quickly but it is expected to eliminate the antiquated ways of traditional
production in those industries and optimize it which will eventually result in shift from
manufacturing organizations to self-engineering in homes. From minuscule things to much more
complex models, it will produce almost anything.

The concept of 3D printing has enhanced the meaning of manufacturing. Just like we
print our school assignments, we are able to design, modify and print other objects as well just
by one click. One of reasons why this type of manufacturing has an edge over manufacturing in
industries is that it can create number of different objects in one device while in industries there
is a different process for producing different products. The reason why most industries will most
likely bring about a change and switch to this is the cost of production which will be relatively
lower when compared to their own cost and not only that but the need of manual labor will also
be declined. That means more profit for organizations and the products could be much more
cheaper.

People are being informed about it through numerous advertisements and that means that
3D printing is not only limited to homes but is expanding to other sectors and organizations like
healthcare, defense and automobiles enabling them to be more creative and efficient. Talking
about use of 3D printers in military and defense, the weapons or devices they use must be
reliable cause it could be matter of life and death in some situations. Recently one of defense
systems designed and produced a device using 3D printer which was not just shock absorbing
but also durable enough as per their requirements and all that was cost effective. The most
beneficial use of 3D printing can be in healthcare departments where numerous lives can be
cured and saved as well. For example, the stock of donated human organs is already very short
and to meet that need they have started to produce and implant them in patients.
3D printing has already brought a revolution. Taking into consideration the pace at which
technology is advancing, I believe as the time passes by its going to be even more efficient and
time saving which will result in complete replacement of old traditional methods of producing
goods. It will provide designers a platform to show their creativity and enable them to easily
design the product and see their imagination transforming into reality in no time.
