PCA-Choosing an Organization
The organization I work for is Regional Health Service. RHSHC is a rural health
facility that is located in Cresco, Iowa. It is an affiliate of Mercy One. RHSHC offers a
full scope of health care services from bringing new life into the world, caring for
patients through illnesses and emergencies, providing health care services for individuals
in their own home, offering long term care options, and finally, offering physical,
emotional, spiritual and social support at the end of life. This continuum of care is
provided by dedicated health care professional staff who look forward to taking care of
patients and their families (Regional Health Services of Howard County: IA). At
Regional Health Services of Howard County, our daily commitment to our patients,
employees and community is to provide quality and safe care. Our commitment is
supervisor of the Business Office. As the supervisor in the business office, I look over
registration for outpatient and the billing department. The business office handles claims,
insurances, revenue, and charges. If they have any questions or concerns, they can come
to me directly. I report to Diane and she is the CFO at Regional Health Services of

Howard County. Diane then reports to Robin, who is the CEO at Regional Health
HIPAA laws and regulations. Since our organization is a rural health hospital and clinic,
we see a lot of different patients on a daily basis. In the business office, we are able to see
all the patient’s information with the doctors and all their personal information if needed
when it comes to billing out their claims. But with that, we do have to follow HIPPA
regulations and guidelines. Employees cannot just go snooping around in patients' private
information because we want to know for ourselves. HIPAA establishes rules that require
healthcare organizations to control who has access to health data, restricting who can
view health information and who that information can be shared with. HIPAA helps to
ensure that any information disclosed to healthcare providers and health plans, or
security controls. Patients are also given control over who their information is released to
and who it is shared with (HIPAA Journal , 2019). RHSHC takes HIPAA very seriously
and as a supervisor of the Business Office, I have to make sure that my team is following
HIPAA. As the text talks about this week, managers and supervisors are supposed to see
the big picture and look out for their organization’s overall well-being (Bolman & Deal,
2017, chap. 1, para. 26 ). With that being said, as supervisor of the business office, I need
to be able to look out for our patients at Regional Health Services of Howard County and
their confidentiality. I need to make sure my team is following all the rules and
The situation I am having to handle over the next five modules is that we had a
patient that had complained to our head of board with RHSHC. This patient was upset
because someone in the business office had broken HIPPA regulations and gave out
confidential information. The patient did not know who did it though. Per the head of
board, the patient stated, “they knew that it was from the business office and it was a
woman. I am not exactly sure what woman it was, but she leaked information about me
that should never have been leaked. I am very upset and hope that you take care of this!”
With this, there are two biggest concerns because the patient did not give us exactly what
team members did break HIPPA regulations and that all the team members in the
