Enrichment Activity Module 1 in Math PDF

- The document is an enrichment activity response from Adrian Josh D. Belan discussing his perspectives on mathematics. - Originally, Belan saw mathematics as just a subject needed to graduate and get a job, but later realized it is present everywhere from counting money to patterns in objects. - Through the module, Belan learned about different types of patterns, symmetries, fractals, spirals, and the Golden Ratio present in art, living things, and infrastructure. He also saw applications of math in fields like forensics, medicine, and technology. - Belan applies math principles in mobile photography by using the golden ratio for cropping, and counts change quickly when shopping to avoid being shorted by

Module 1

Enrichment Activity: Short-Response/ Essay Writing

1. What is mathematics for you?
- For me, mathematics is anything that have numbers or is related to numbers. When I was younger,
I thought that mathematics is just a subject in which you need to pass in order to graduate and get
a good job. But when I was in senior high school, I looked at math with a different perspective.
Math is everywhere. From the moment we count our changes when we buy something, to the
patterns we see in every object. Now, I can say that mathematics is not just a subject, it is also part
of our lives that cannot be removed.
2. What new ideas about mathematics did you learn?
- When I was done reading this module, I’ve discovered many ideas and it still amazes me when I
think about it. First of all, I’ve learned about different types patterns and regularities. I’ve learned
about symmetries, fractals, and spirals. I also learned about the Fibonacci Sequence or what we
call as the Golden Ratio. This Golden Ration can be found not only with objects, but with various
living things just like animals, plants and even in ourselves. The Golden Ratio can also be found
in different art forms and infrastructures. I also learned the different applications of mathematics
in the real world like in forensic, medical field, information technology and in other fields.
3. Where do you apply the principles of mathematics?
- I can apply the principles of mathematics in mobile photography. For example, I just turn on the
golden ratio curves in my mobile phone to know where to crop and to know what should I include
in the photo. Also, when I buy at the store, I can easily count my change even if it is a large number
by computing it all in my head. I think that it is an advantage because some vendors tend to give
us less change than our real change.
4. Do you need mathematics ever day? Why?
- Confidently saying, yes. We all need mathematics every day because from the moment we wake
up, to the moment we sleep, mathematics is included. How can I say? Well, how can you tell the
time when you wake up in the morning if there’s no mathematics? And at the moment we’re about
to sleep, most of us set an alarm to wake up early in the morning. That includes math also.
Remember that math is everywhere. Whether you can see it or not, math is everywhere.
5. Do you appreciate mathematics? Why or why not?
- Yes, I appreciate mathematics. It is a subject that I love since I was in elementary up until now.
I love mathematics because of the fact that it helps me in my everyday life. It is also the reason
why I passed most of my college entrance exams because of my love for mathematics. I studied
hard for it and it bear me a good fruit, and that is passing my entrance exam here in Philippine
State College of Aeronautics.
