Home Assignment - 2

The document contains 5 numerical problems related to electric fields and point charges. Problem 1 asks to calculate the electric field intensity at a point between two charged particles. Problem 2 asks to find the magnitude and direction of the electric field between two negatively charged particles. Problem 3 asks to find the electric field intensity at a point due to two charged particles. Problem 4 asks to find the electric field vector and equivalent charge at a point due to two charged particles. Problem 5 asks to determine the location of a third charge that would experience no net force between two other charges.

Home Assignment – 2
Numerical (8 Marks each)
1) Two particles having charges 2 nano coulomb and 5 nano coulomb are spaced 80 cm
apart. Determine the electric field intensity at a point “A” situated at a distance of
0.5 meters from each of the two particles. Assume the medium to be Bakelite having
dielectric constant of 5.

2) Three negative charges Q1 = -1µC, Q2 = -2 µC and Q3 = -3 µC are placed at the three

corners of an equilateral triangle. If the length of each side is 1 m, find the magnitude
and direction of electric field at the point bisecting the line between the charges Q2 and
Q3.

3) Find the electric field intensity at a point (0,0,5) m due to two charges Q1 = 0.35 µC
at (0,4,0) m and Q2 = -0.55 µC at (3,0,0) m.

4) Point charges of 120 nano coulomb each are located at A(0,0,1) and B(0,0,-1) in free
space. Find the vector E at P (0,0.5,0). What single charge at the origin would provide
the identical field strength and calculated at P?

5) Two point charges 5 µC and – 3 µC are placed along a straight line 10 m apart.
Determine the location of a third charge 4 µC such that it is subjected to no force.
