Philsophy - M1: Submitted To: Prof Irum Saba Submitted By: Syed Muhammad Zargham Ali (2183184)

The document discusses the relationship between philosophy and science. It argues that philosophy came before science, as the earliest scientists were philosophers wondering about the natural world. Additionally, science relies on logic and mathematics, which are branches of philosophy. While philosophy can develop independently through thinking and reasoning, science would not exist without the initial philosophical questioning and framework provided. Overall, the document asserts that philosophy preceded and enabled the development of science, though philosophy can still progress through thought alone.

Can science "work" without philosophy?

To me, science would not exist without philosophy. There’s a great saying “Philosophy is a
mother of all sciences” for a reason.

Philosophy is our passion to think, our pathway to wisdom. The beginnings of science started
with wonder. Why does this work? How does this work? The many sub-categories of science
today were founded by old philosophers, like Aristotle, Socrates etc.

The person who invented/founded/discovered Atom/the atomic theory was Democritus, an

ancient natural philosopher. And he did all this just by wondering and thinking.

Also today’s modern science relies heavily on mathematics, and mathematics in turn is
ultimately derived from the rules of logic. Logic in turn is indisputably a branch of philosophy.

Can philosophy develop by itself, without the support of science?

Actually Yes, philosophy can, and did, develop without science. Aristotle’s philosophy was not
based on science.
Philosophy is the thinking part. It is a processing phase. Everyone goes through it without being
aware of it. After processing the output in your case is “science” (however you want to define it).
Nothing can be done without you “processing” it in your brain first.
