Answer the following questions

Question one:
As shown in figure below, an inductor is made of two coils, A and B, having 350 and 150 turns,
respectively. The coils are wound on a cast steel core. The two coils are connected in series to a
dc voltage.
(a) Determine the two possible values of current required in the coils to establish a flux density
of 0.5 T in the air gap.
(b) Determine the self-inductances LA and LB of the two coils. “Neglect magnetic leakage and fringing”

(c) If coil B is now disconnected and the current in coil A is adjusted to 2.0A, determine the
mean flux density in the air gap.

Question two:
A single phase, 440 V, 80 kW load, having a lagging power factor of 0.8, is supplied through a
feeder of impedance 0.6 + j1.6 ohm and a single phase, 100 kVA, 2200/440 V, 60 Hz
transformer. The equivalent impedance of the transformer referred to the high-voltage side is
1.15 + j4.5 ohm.
(a) Draw the schematic diagram showing the transformer connection.
(b) Determine the voltage at the high-voltage terminal of the transformer.
(c) Determine the voltage at the sending end of the feeder.
Question three:
An ideal transformer having 90 turns on the primary and 2250 turns on the secondary is
connected to a 200 V, 50 Hz source. The load across the secondary draws a current of 2 A at a
power factor of 0.8 lagging.
Calculate:
(a) The effective value of the primary current.
(b) The instantaneous current in the primary when the instantaneous current in the
secondary is100 mA.
(c) The peak flux linked by the secondary winding.
(d) Draw the phasor diagram.

Question four:
The 3-Ф generator shown in figure below is connected to three 20 Ω load resistors. If the
effective voltage induced in each phase is 120 V, calculate the following:
(a) The power dissipated in each resistor.
(b) The power dissipated in the 3-phase load.
(c) The peak power Pm dissipated in each resistor.
(d) The total 3-phase power compared to Pm.

Question five:
A 5000 hp wye-connected motor as “laod” is connected to a 4000 V (Line - to - Line), 3-phase,
60 Hz line. A delta-connected capacitor bank rated at 1800 kvar is also connected to the line.
If the motor produces an output of 3594 hp at an efficiency of 93 % and a power factor of 0.9
(lagging), calculate the following:
(a) The active power absorbed by the motor.
(b) The reactive power absorbed by the motor.
(c) The reactive power supplied by the transmission line.
(d) The apparent power supplied by the transmission line.
(e) The transmission line current.
(f) The motor line current.
(g) Draw the complete phasor diagram for one phase.
Question six:
With the instruments located on the high-voltage side and the low-voltage side short-circuited,
the short-circuit test readings for the 50-kVA 2400:240-V transformer are 48 V, 20.8 A, and
617 W. An open-circuit test with the low-voltage side energized gives instrument readings on
that side of 240 V, 5.41 A, and 186 W.
- Determine the efficiency and the voltage regulation at full load, 0.80 power factor
lagging.

Question seven:

A Y-connected of three identical 100-kVA 7967/277-V transformers is supplied with power

directly from a large constant-voltage bus. In the short-circuit test, the recorded values on the
high-voltage side for one of these transformers are
VSC = 560 V ISC = 12.6 A PSC = 3300 W
(a) If this ”Y-Y” transformer bank delivers a rated load at 0.88 PF lagging and rated voltage,
what is the line-to-line voltage on the primary of the transformer bank?
(b) What is the voltage regulation under these conditions?
