24-Bit TIF RGB To Image PDF

This document describes converting a 24-bit RGB TIF file to the ATDI RI3 image format. The process involves two steps: 1) converting the TIF to ASCII, and 2) converting the ASCII to RI3. Required tools are the ATDI planning tools HTZ communications or HTZ Warfare after August 20, 2019. The document provides an example TIF file with 3 bands and 8 bits per sample. It explains setting parameters like the grid code and coordinate code during conversion based on the source TIF file.

Conversion of
24-bit RGB TIF file to ATDI image format

Release number v1.0

Technical support
1. Introduction

This document describes how to convert a source 24-bit RGB TIF file to ATDI format. More specifically the
newly introduced *.RI3 format.
This format doesn’t require a corresponding map palette as the case with *.IMG and *.RIM formats.

2. Required tools

This document will only require ATDI planning tool “HTZ communications” or “HTZ Warfare”.
Build date: After 20/08/2019.

3. Sample input

The input file used in this document is a TIF file.

TIF files can be 8, 16, 24 and 32 bit files and they can be PCT or RGB. RGB is 3 bands TIF file with each band
encoding 0-255 for Red, Green and Blue and hence the RGB name convention.

The tiff file used in this document has the follow tags:

TIFFTAG_BITSPERSAMPLE: 8
TIFFTAG_SAMPLESPERPIXEL: 3

So 3 bands and each band is 8 bits.

3 x 8 = 24 bits

4. Conversion process

Step (1):

Step (2):

1) Convert the TIF (RGB) to ASCII

2) Then convert the ASCII to RI3

In step 2, set the Grid code as per source TIF file. Also use 24 bits.

The coordinate code is based on the source TIF file. User needs to have a prior knowledge of it. It can not
be detected by ATDI tool.
Since the TIF file is 24-bit resolution RGB file; hence we set to “1” which means True.

The tool we carry out the conversion process and produce outcome such as:

You only care about the “RI3” files and you may delete the rest.

Create a project and point the image layer to RI3 file. No need for Map palette:
