3Ps (Pagpatik, Pagturo at Paggawa)

Tap, Teach, Act!

The advocacy is to strengthen the building of mindset of protecting the environment and develop
strategies that will bring environmental literacy to all; where people are given awareness and knowledge
on improved waste management to reduce pollution and eradicate climate change.

I. BACKGROUND/ SITUATION ANALYSIS

The management of waste disposal continues to be a major challenge across the globe particularly in
rapid growing cities as population and economic activities expected to increase. Improper disposal is defined as not
segregating the waste, littering beside or on the street and open burning of garbage. These continuously
contaminate the environment which has impact to public health and safety of the entire community.

II. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In accordance with the provisions of Republic Act 9003, the act encourages to conduct a continuing
education and information campaign on solid waste management. People must be well-informed and educated on
managing residual waste such as waste segregation to ensure the effectiveness of the implementation on
ecological Solid Waste Management. This is the reason why I created the advocacy namely project 3Ps
(Pagtapik,Pagturo,Paggawa).

The 3Ps (Pagtapik,Pagturo,Paggawa) aims to raise awareness and good waste management practices
aligning with the 3Rs ( Reduce,Reuse, Recycle). This advocacy embraces public involvement to bridge the gap of
practicing waste management at home and school. The materials and references will be used is from the DENR
publications to spread a credible and accurate information.

The 3Ps intends to targets all the students and pupils from different schools in the city, putting youth
and children as the focal point in the process of creating environment-oriented mindset. The efficiency of the
SWM greatly relies on the proper segregation of solid waste whereas proper segregation relies on the knowledge
and participation of the youth. This is the reason why 3Ps is committed to educate the students from different
schools in General Santos City and raise awareness to encourage everyone to execute environmental best practices
for better sustainable waste management and cope with climate change and pollution.

III. ADVOCACY OBJECTIVE

 To reduce the number of waste being generated at the present level
 To enhance the basic knowledge of youth increasing their awareness of the importance of caring
for the environment
 To motivate people in adopting best comprehensive practices such as 3Rs and safe manner
disposal in ecological waste management

IV. PROGRAMS

 School-to-School Information Campaign

The 3Ps School-to-School Information Drive campaign is organized in order to disseminate accurate,
relevant and important information to all students and pupils from different schools all throughout the City of
General Santos. By proper dissemination of information the people will surely gain knowledge. The advocacy
believes on the sustainability of knowledge. According to the University of British Columbia (2018) that having an
information drive is more than a project, for we are committed to foster the knowledge and by this the people may
decipher skills and experience of the community in order for them to serve as agents of change and community
leaders and responsible global citizens. The sustainability of this advocacy manifested internally through
knowledge that holds great promises of power and discernment.

 Plastic FUN-Tastic!

This activity is all about collecting of plastic bottles from different Barangays in General Santos
City in exchange of fun feeding activity. The bottles that will be collected are sold to plastic collector shop and the
fund we get from the sold bottles will be donated to children’s charities in a form of kits and needs. Extras will be
used to buy seeds and other needs for tree planting.

 Community Clean-Up Drive and Tree Planting

Either of the Community clean-up drive or Tree planting is conducted once in a month where
encourage volunteers, selected participants from different school and other partnerships bring together to clean in
order to improve public spaces’ aesthetic and look safer places for everyone. The Tree Planting activity is an activity
which aims to increase the quantity of trees in the locality as mitigation to climate crisis. Both activities let the
involved persons appreciate more the nature and act in a little way but can bring macro-impact to save our mother
